What a Weirdo

I’ve been tagged by Margo to do a “9 Weird Things Meme.” And because I love her blog so much, I will oblige. Maybe, like me, you don’t know what meme means. Shameful! Here’s the definition for those of us who are simpletons:

meme n.
A unit of cultural information, such as a cultural practice or idea, that is transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another.

Here we go…
1) I have a terrible, unreasonable fear of tornadoes. When driving through open country, I often pass time looking for places I could hide if a tornado suddenly came upon me. And wind gives me a stomach ache.

2) I eat my Chick-fil-a sandwich with the cole slaw on it. It’s not very ladylike and the juice always streams down my arm, but I can’t eat it any other way.

3) I really, really do not like handling raw meat. I try to get Curt to do it, but then I have vain imaginations that he got meat juice somewhere in the kitchen that I didn’t think to clean.

4) One of my core values is symmetry.

5) I didn’t get past the feeling of embarrassment from carrying a purse until after I graduated from college.

6) Jackson’s diaper was the first one I ever changed.

7) I wore my hair in a ponytail every day of my life from 1990-1994.

8) When Curt gets behind the wheel I morph into a driver’s ed. instructor.

9) I don’t think I’ve ever lost at Scattergories.

Make my day and list some of your own in a comment. You know you like talking about yourself as much as I do. If you have a blog, you’ve got to do all 9! That means you - Alicia, Stephanie R., Sherry, Janelle, Christi, Amber, Kat, Mel, and Stephanie V.

  3. Here you go...as if anyone didn't already know how weird I am..

    1. I have to count backwords from 100 before I fall asleep...no matter what.

    2. I memorize numbers for no reason at all; I can still remember my phone number from when I was eight years old.

    3. I can't sleep with socks on and I would rather have my feet freeze than wear socks pretty much anytime at all.

    4. If I do something fun once, I feel like I have to do the same thing all the time..for example, we ate breakfast one saturday at panera and we have eaten there every saturday for the last six months...and I still get the same thing.

    5. I'm the most impatient person in the world; if david is 5 minutes late, I totally flip. And, being late myself is one of my worst nightmares. Not that it hasn't happened, but I probably had a panic attack before I walked in if I was actually late.

    6. When I read a fiction book, I get so lost in the characters that I think they're real and totally obsees about them.

    7. I still watch Little House on the Prairie and Anne of Green Gables.

    8. I drink a large chick-fil-a sweet tea every day (see # 4).

    9. I really like to be alone.

I can personally attest to most - no, all - of those oddities and take full responsibility for marrying your father from whom you inherited them.

You didn’t request you MIL’s weird habits or secrets, but here’s a few I thought of. May explain a few things about your spouse:

I love to eat Milky Way candy bars like an ear of corn on the cob. I eat the creamy nugget first across the bottom and save thin layer of caramel across the top for last. Weird.

At one time both I and my two children all had mullets.

You know my quest to collect the 10 scariest movies of all time – according to Bravo TV. #9 – Night of the Living Dead – still creeps me out so much that since I’ve purchased the DVD 18 mos. ago, I’ve still yet to watch the whole thing through.

I like to keep my favorite pieces of clothing new – I’ll buy a new favorite pair of shoes or jeans and won’t wear them very often because I don’t want to wear them out and won’t have them any more. I also take my jeans to the cleaners ‘cause I don’t want them to wear out – never do that for Steve’s. And it’s not so they won’t shrink, although that’s a concern too. Ha!

Ok, that’s enough. I’m sure Curt could give you a dozen more.

Here’s a couple on your husband. I’m sure I’ve told you these before.

When he was a toddler he went through a phase where he’d chew up his food but wouldn’t swallow. Just hold it in his mouth until it liquefied and ran out the sides.

When he was 4 or 5, he’d change his clothes 5 or 6 times a day.

He used to cry when his shoe strings would touch the ground. We’d have to adjust the bow so nothing was touching the floor.

He once paired up with Joey Holcomb at church at Wednesday Night Thing to eat live gold fish during their opening activities. When Joey could swallow his and spit it out, Curt popped it in his mouth and ate Joey’s too. That’s still infamous at Springhill – I heard about it just last week.

I could tell a lot more stories, but you’ve probably heard them all and you were looking for things that weren’t single incidents. By the way – on # 4 – he also ate worms during HS baseball practice, so #4 is sort of a habit.

  8. Amanda - all 9 are why I love you so much!! Your mother in law cracks me up; she has a bit of a flair for writing as well, I think!
Thanks for making me smile and have something interesting to think about (besides what may or may not be in my son's diaper!)
