As if I haven't already

I'm about to expose myself as a complete freak. Okay, here goes. My friend Sunni and I have been planning our babies' birthday parties for the past 3 months. Just kidding! For the past 2 months. So today I tell her that I still haven't figured out where to get the cake from. (Countdown: a week and a half. That's how I roll, folks.) The CAKE! It's the whole point of a party!

In Houston I know exactly where I'd go - Cake Affairs, where we got our wedding cake. (Have I mentioned that I took a good portion of our wedding cake and groom's cake with us to Maui? Packed up in my carry on? I ate it for breakfast on the plane and then every day in the hotel that we couldn't afford room service in. I didn't think this was strange until my friends started referring to me as the One who loves Cake.) Back to the present. I did not know where to get a great cake around here. Any need for a baked good has always been met at el famoso JD's Chippery. JD's is evidence of God's glory to me.

So Sunni sent me links to three bakeries - Cretia's, Dallas Affaires, and Society Bakery. So I spent about 20 minutes looking at pictures of cakes and reading the list of flavors. Let me just tell you, it was as though I had just eaten a whole cake by myself because my heart rate began to accelerate and, I kid you not, I got goosebumps. I was THAT HAPPY ABOUT THE CAKE. I am a freak in my own eyes.

  1. Cake Affairs are good! I actually (not to brag) make as good as a cake as Camilla's (although they look homemade). What kind of cake are you wanting? You could come over here and we could make the cake!!!

OK...so do you think we are total white trash and uncaring parents because we scramble at the last minute to get a Wal-Mart cake for our kids' birthdays??

How crazy is this? I always ordered chocolate even though all three of my kids liked white cake, because it made better pictures of a messy first birthday cake in the mouth with squished fingers!!! Terrible, but I got some great pics, and blue frosting is a must! Love, M

  7. The best thing about a one year old's party is that the children really won't eat much, so that just means more cake for you and Sunni after the party. And there's no need for a saucer, really - just a fork will do. Not that I would know anything about that, of course.

  8. Any girl who packs a cake in her carry on bag is a girl after my own heart.

It just shows true cake love and dedication.

  9. Amanda - We got our cake at Texas Star Bakery in Hurst. They are rather inexpensive and have SO many fun cakes that we of course couldn't use for the wedding. So, if you haven't found one you might look there too...

Hope that helps...and you are NOT a freak...who doesn't LOVE to plan things...especially for your baby!

  10. I read this last night before I went to bed. Just what do you think I was laying there thinking about? Yes you are right...none other than CAKE! I am not sure if I went on to dream about having some...

I thought you might enjoy a laugh with me.

Laugh out loud funny. Thanks! I've never known anyone to pack cake, but I'm sure my mom will from now on when I tell her the story of this girl I've never met... but seebug knows her. ;-)
