That's not supposed to be there

Every day of motherhood has one of those I know that did not just happen moments. Yesterday's was very special. I had taken Jackson's pants off since they were super long and I wanted him to be able to move freely in case he wanted to try walking again. He was playing in the living room with all his toys, including his piggy bank and coins. Later we went into his room for some reason and were wrestling around on the floor. After a fun hair-pulling experience I sat up and saw that one of the big plastic coins from Jackson's piggy bank was sticking out of the back of his diaper. What in the world? He must have dropped it straight behind his head. And then I plucked it from the diaper. And, SURPRISE, it was covered in poop. WHAT IN THE WORLD!?!? You know what? My mind really could not comprehend what had just happened and I stared at it trying to think what else it could possibly be. It was definitely poop. I guess that was practice for when he swallows a nickel one day.

Oh, that had to be startling.
I had a similar moment a few months ago - I took my one year-olds in for their check-up and shots. When we got home, I laid them down for nap. I discovered later that one of them had peeled off her blue snoopy bandaids and ate them during "naptime". I was really thankful to see a bright blue snoopy in her dirty diaper the next day!

  2. Nothing in my previous life prepared me for all the ways I would have to deal with poop as a mama.

    To quote Caroline, "It's bisgusting"

  4. After listening to Alex fake burp for at least half of our four-hour drive home this afternoon, I feel that I should somehow prepare you for the wealth of delights you have in store. A poop-covered coin is just the tip of the proverbial poop-covered boy-parenting iceberg.

Any my, isn't that some lovely imagery?

    :-)

  5. A poop covered coin, nut (as in nuts and bolts) and a nickel were some surprises I found when my boys were little. Welcome to a new world you never knew exsisted!

The joys of motherhood, we are so blessed!

  6. Ewwww! The poo-poo stories of motherhood are endless, but I think that one is one of the, um, most creative I've heard.

  7. I have a little girl, but I'm glad I get to read stories like this to help prepare me should the Lord ever see fit to give us a boy. :0)

So far I've not seen anything out of the ordinary yet, but on those rare occasions when she happens to ingest a bit of paper or Kleenex that I don't intercept in time, I sigh and think, "I bet I'll see THAT again..."

    Good times...

Oh my, when my little girl came home from playing with 2 little boys at our neighbor's house one day, she had a matchbox car in her diaper and a piece of bologna in her onesie.

  9. Funny and unspeakably gross at the same time. I bet all mothers of toddlers have been there at some point. I remember reading a blog a few years back where a mom found a cigarette butt (!!) in her two-year-old daughter's diaper. She was one of those tikes that stuffed everything in her mouth as soon as her mom turned her back, and apparently, their park wasn't as clean as they would have liked.

  10. After a Sunday morning of puppy poop, I'd rather have your experience! As someone once wrote here, baby poop is never as nasty as puppy poop! But just wait until he starts chewing on his blanket and the strings show up! That's a What in the World! moment for sure!
