Feeling Much Better, Thank You

I'm feeling a lot better today. Thank You, Lord! Y'all, I was in my bed the WHOLE day yesterday. Until Jackson went to sleep, I only spent 30 minutes outside my bed. I did not even brush my hair until 6 p.m. I woke up this morning in the same pajamas I'd gone to bed in two nights before. That is so gross. My neck and back are sore from all the laying down. Today I woke up bright and early, actually it was still dark, at 6 a.m. I would have been bitter except I was thankful to have slept all night after my 11 hour nap. I showered and got completely ready before 8, when I went to the donut shop for kolaches. Now that is a sign of wellness.

Tell me this. Why did my son not cry the entire day yesterday until his dad left me with him for 20 minutes? And why this morning can he only whine to me but be so sweet with his dad? I'm very puzzled. However, I am extremely thankful that Jackson and Curtis have a great relationship. I'm grateful to have a husband who will share the responsibility of taking care of our son. He was perfectly happy yesterday. The only mishap was that two nights ago when I was starting to feel weird and didn't have it in me to clean the kitchen, Curtis accidentally unloaded dirty dishes from the dishwasher into the cabinets. And my worst germ nightmare - I know there was raw chicken juice on some of them. Can anyone say SALMONELLA?

  1. That may be the source of your mystery illnesses...How often does hubby do dishes?? :)

    Glad you are better...

  2. Ah, Kolaches. They have no idea what Kolaches are here in Colorado, believe me, I've asked. Now , you probably had some in Caldwell, like us, for the Kolache festival right? So for my last day of Bible study, I found a recipe and made sausage and fruit Kolaches. They turned out pretty good! I'll have to keep trying to make them better.

I think the reason our kids whine to us and not the Dads is that somehow that has become part of their "language" with Mom's. I will get tired and begin to respond to it...then it becomes a habit. I heard someone say that as they begin to understand more, we can say, "I can't hear you when you talk to me in that whine." It has helped!

Glad you're feeling better Amanda. Did you have pickles this time?

  3. So glad you are feeling better ~ Jackson probably knows you aren't 100% and this is God's way of letting you get fully recovered !!
Also although I have realized it - it just REALLY sank in on the fact that you are doing an amazing job of bloggie double duty!
I updated my girlfriends yesterday and it's lots of work to do more than one! Have a GREAT weekend! Feel better!

  4. When I have tried to explain kolaches to midwesterners, such as my husband before he became a Texan, I would always get this reply: Oh, a hot pocket! No. But it's not their fault.

Last night I did have a pickle before bed time. It was like aromatherapy. And I'm definitely not pregnant. My friend unfortunately came down with it today, so I'm very sure it's a virus. I admit to getting suspicious though!

  5. hi amanda...found your blog through my friend angie and love reading it. i had to laugh out loud when i read your comment about salmonella. after the lengthy (but totally worthwhile) education I've given him, even my poor husband could spout off to you all of the cleaning products that can be used to keep a chicken-juice-free environment! and kolaches? girl. i am czech and spent my entire life eating my grandmothers homemade poppyseed and sausage kolaches. i tried to make them once. an unfortunate situation--i'm sure it was due to the fact that i couldn't sing little czech songs while working on the dough (like my grandmother) rather than my ability to knead correctly ;) have a good one!

  6. Hey Amanda! Just wanted to let you know that we are battling what sounds like the same bug over in South Carolina. I felt like death warmed over yesterday...never "got sick"...just wished I could. Then my Jedi woke up this morning with nausea and hasn't been able to keep anything down all day. Needless to say our plans to travel to Columbia to spend Memorial Day with my parents have been put on hold. Praying that this is all over soon...for everyone!!!
P.S. - I love your blog, and read it everyday!!!

  7. Okay, I admit it. I've never heard of a Kolache. I guess I'll have to Wikipedia it and take you at your word, that it's a special thing.

I feel that way about Tiramisu and when I occasionally meet someone who doesn't know what that is I feel so sorry for them and make them accept one from me. But then they must feel forced to pretend they love it, because I've made such a fuss. So I wonder if everyone really loves Tiramisu as much as I do or if they are just being polite.

Anyway, so happy you're above the weather again! Happy Memorial Day to you, Amanda, and to all the internet pals!

  8. I'm glad you are feeling better. It's so hard to be sick and be a mommy too. Praise God for wonderful husbands...what would we do without them? :)

I laughed at the dishwasher story. When I was in the hospital having our 3rd baby a year ago, our friends decided to surprise us by coming over and cleaning the house. What a sweet thing to do...Unfortunitly, they unloaded all the dirty dishes in the dishwasher (I didn't get a chance to run it because I went into labor) and put them back in the cupborad. When I discovered this my husband had to take EVERY dish, cup and piece of silverware and rewash it! :)

Needless to say I never told our friends! :)

  9. Oh Amanda! I totally understand! My son (who is 13 months) does the same thing with my husband. He can be happily playing with him, but when I walk into the room, he starts whining and acting like it's the end of the world as we know it. So you're not alone! : )

P.S. I found your blog through my friend Jamie and have loved reading about your sweet family!

  14. OH.. he knew you felt yucky and would not be in the mood to play with him. Children are very smart and they want the person who is going to do anything to entertain them!!
It is nice that Jackson has a great relationship with his daddy but you wait - I have 2 boys and they both are daddy's boys but want mommy for all the sweet, snuggly, & mushy stuff!!
I love it and it is a great balance!
My youngest (3 yrs old) always tells me "mommy you are soooo pretty - I want to marry you when I grow up!!" PRICELESS!!
You only get that as a mommy of a boy!!
Much love and I am so glad you are feeling better :)

  15. Amanda, though we have never met, I definitely identified with you about the affection your son has for your husband. For me, however, it's actually the opposite. When my daughter Elizabeth was that same age and probably until she was about 2 and a half, she very much wanted me all the time and would cry and cling to me when my husband came home from work. Eek!

As a wife, I felt hurt for him that she preferred me to him. As a mommy, it was a huge ego boost (smile) to have someone be so into me! However, it was also tricky because she did not like for us to be apart. So going to the bathroom or even out by myself were major opportunities to walk in truth and disregard guilt. :)

As for why I think this happens, I have a small and very unscientifically-proven theory. Young boys identify with and prefer dads, and young girls their moms. And though I think we'd all agree they need both parents for a balanced perspective, they definitely seem to prefer their same gender when they are young. I have seen our same scenarios play out in the lives of my friends who have boys and girls. Too interesting, I think!

God's great patience and grace to you as parent your little boy! What a treasure they are!!
