I just read that Lady Bird Johnson passed away. Every spring I think of her when the glorious Bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrushes, and all the other wildflowers spring up on our highways. I got to visit the LBJ Library and the LBJ Ranch as a kid and I've always had an affection for her.
Here's an article about her impressive life.
Okay, I'm not a Texan (please don't hold that against me. . I know there are a bunch of you Texas Bloggers out there) but have to admit I was taken a bit a back when I heard the news of Lady Bird's passing. The news made me pause and catch my breath. So know the rest of the nation mourns the loss of as you so apatly put it, "A Good Texas Woman."

When I saw the headline about her death yesterday, I thought to myself, "I know very little about this dignified lady. But with a name like Lady Bird, she must be from Texas."

I remember very little about her, as I was about 5-8 years old when she was First Lady, but I'm a Texan, and I enjoy the fruit of her labor in all the beautiful Texas highways. Now that my daughter lives in Austin, I told her to go stand in front of Town Lake Sunday when the procession goes by. The Texas-size graciousness of Lady Bird deserves an encore! God rest her soul. Also thanks, A., for all that you do to moderate and write on the LP blog. I can't imagine wading through all those posts. You are doing an outstanding and tireless job. I appreciate you.
