Swim Day

Here it is!

Pretty Hot And Tempting Christ-Oriented Women

Kittyhox came really close with Pretty Hot and Tempting Christ-Only Women, so I will be sending her a copy of Get Out of That Pit by none other than my mother. Unless she already has that, in which case I'll figure something else out.

We had so much fun with Curt's mom and grandparents over the weekend. We're very thankful for their willingness to make the long drive to come see us. We will make the trip to Missouri in about a month. We did indeed visit Sprinkles and JD's within a three hour span. We still have half a coconut cupcake and six chocolate chip cookies in the kitchen. Hopefully they will get stale before we can eat them all! We spent some quality time at Northpark Mall where I hit the jackpot at the Lucky store. They were having an insane sale! Basically, it was 75% off most of the store. I bought two skirts for me, matching long-sleeve t-shirts for Curt and Jackson that will be so cute in the fall, and a British flag track jacket for Jackson. It is all out of control cute.

So have y'all gone to see Evan Almighty yet? We took advantage of having a free babysitter on Saturday night and went to see it. Curtis and I laughed so hard. The robe just sent me over the edge. But seriously, someone needs to build an ark in the homeland because it has not stopped raining in days!

Our church's preschool water day was rained out last week and my friends and I were very disappointed. So we planned a Monday playdate at Bedford Splash. After all this rain, we were really heartbroken to hear predictions that this week would be just as wet. We surmised that if it was raining at 11 a.m. we would not go. But lo, there was blue sky over our little piece of the Metroplex at 11:00. Glory! Two hours, all I wanted was two hours of swimming! Jackson and I hadn't gotten in a real pool together all summer and, hello, it's already July! Oh my gosh, how is it July?

The Lord gave us exactly two hours at the kiddie water park and it was too much fun. Jackson was very happy to be there and proudly displayed his perma-grin. Thank God, he did not blow chunks. He did not stop moving the entire time we were there. He even got bored with the water and wanted to run between the lounge chairs. I don't think I finished more than two conversations with my girlfriends, whose toddlers obediently played within ten feet of where their mothers placed them. I've learned through Gymboree and other experiences like today that my son likes to do his own thing. He also likes for Mommy to bounce him around in the lazy river.

Tonight I was as happy as can be sitting on the couch, my chlorine-smelling arms wrapped around my baby boy, whose sweet little hair smelled like Coppertone. Gotta love summer.

  1. Amanda,
I love the smell of coppertone and chlorine babies!!
I am so glad God blessed you with those 2 hrs and a great time with your in-laws.
Oh and you have a little boy - they never sit still. It just means you will have some nice legs from all that running/chasing!!

I love that Kittyhox came so close to the guess!!
You really did get some great and FUNNY guesses!!
Oh I am still figuring out this blog thing but I wanted to ask if it was ok to add your blog link on my blog? I think I have seen other people ask permission and I am very by the book - hehe
    God bless siesta!

  2. Sounds like you guys had a great time! I saw the directory pictures Cozy had of you guys. Very cute! Jackson is just getting so big!

  3. Ohh...nothing like sitting on the couch still in chlorine perfume and coppertone. It always makes me want a peanut butter and jelly sandwich! Glad y'all had fun!

  4. I remember those days at the pool. For me it was with three little ones (4 and under)! Now they're all teens and those wonderful memories just flooded back as I read your blog.

Thanks for the head's up on the Lucky sale! It's my one of my daughter, Sammie's favorite stores. And I'm looking for b-day presents. She'll be 16 on August 1st. Oh man, I can hardly believe it!! Seems like just yesterday she was Jackson's age.

Enjoy your time with Jackson while he's little. That time flies by all too fast.

  5. If they could bottle the scent of sunscreen and chlorine, I'd buy that perfume. "Perpetual Summer."

(And Shelly, it makes me want fresh chips and guacamole. That's what I crave after a day at the beach.)

  6. Nothing sweeter than a young'un who smells like Coppertone. I think it's the very best part of summer.

Well, that and homemade ice cream.

    ;-)

I agree...I can't believe it's July already either. Where does the time go? Summer is just too much fun with a toddler!

  8. I'm a little envious that the clouds parted for y'all today. We got all sunscreened up and made it about 15 minutes at the pool before it started raining.

And nothing better than a tired, snuggly Coppertone baby at the end of the day.

  9. Ella and I had so much fun today!! It was one of the best playdates ever. And that picture of Ella and Jackson is one of my favorite pictures of them throughout the last 16 months.

  13. Jackson is such a water baby!!! He was so cute. Today was so much fun and you are right the Lord gave us exactly 2 hours to enjoy the water. I could not believe the downpour on the way home.

  14. How sweet! I am glad to hear the rain subsided over the last few days, at least enough to have a playdate - priorities people! Jackson looked like he had a great time and oh the smells of summer - they are delightful. Have a great Fourth!

  15. Love love love the scent of chlorine on my girls' hair at the end of the day, and they are so mellow and sweet after a day in the sun. Chasing Jackson while the other toddlers sat more quietly near their mommy's reminds me of my own chasing days... always wondering why my girls were so curious and active. Oh, that's right- they are just like their daddy, and I am so glad... even though it meant I was always saying "What?" to my girlfriends to keep up with the chit chat!
Summer is good! Enjoy the bits of sunshine that come your way!

Looks like Jackson likes to pave his own path! I have a Jackson that is like that! Must be the name!!!!!

  17. Um I LOVED Evan Almighty! I took one of my girls and we cracked up... mainly when he screams and Samuel Jackson tells him let it out its the first step to wisdom! Lots of fun with the DC NOVA twist too... and we laughed at the biblical humor others in the theater did not get... good times!

    Just adorable.

  19. That is a great name! I pray that God will bless DFW area with abundant sunshine so that you all can swim and cookout and do whatever you have planned for the 4th. Actually, you all need sunshine for more than a day! It is pretty in East Tennessee but it's only in the mid-80's . I like it HOT, it warms our pool. After church we were in the pool for 5 hours. I bought a volleyball/badmitton game for the pool at Kohls,(for 27.00) I was proud of that find! I was in the mall yesterday and everything is on sale! Fun times. Have a great holiday. :o)

  20. Cute place, that Bedford Splash...we didn't know about it! We call having conversations with children "choppy talk"...meaning you never finish a single conversation and have about 10 in one time together. You always leave your friends saying, "we never finished talking about..." Life with preschoolers!
I've got to try Sprinkles...I hear they are good. I need to check out the competition!

  21. Jackson looks so big going down that slide! Where does the time go? Sorry about the rain! I too love the smell of chlorine and sun block. Have fun traveling to MO!

  22. Reid does the same thing! He likes to swim a bit, run through the chairs a bit and even sample other people's snacks a bit. So gross.

  23. I have two little girls who also NEVER sit still...I blame my hubby for that. I have to take a babysitter with us to the water park, because they go in different directions. I am very chill, but I do think they do many fun things that I wouldn't get to experience if they sat still all the time. I have to rely on mom's night out for chit chat...and bible study.

Off-the-hook Lucky sale, baked goods, free babysitters, and a snuggly tired sweetie pie that smells of chlorine & Coppertone...I have to think that maybe that's what Heaven's like!

  25. I love Jackson's face in the background of the picture with Ella. He's so happy!

  26. Thanks for the recommendation on Evan Almighty! I was wondering if it might be funny - but I got burned by Steve Carrell in the 40 Year Old Version (we accidentally rented the "uncensored version"). Yikes! We are going to the movies this very weekend, and will probably see it.

Hope the clouds part and all you Texans get some Texas weather very soon! Summer with a little one is not best spent indoors!

We've been thinking about going to see Evan Almighty. Thanks mentioning that you enjoyed it. Maybe we'll make it out this weekend!

  28. Perma-grin - perfect description. I love how that little grin seems to be hiding a sweet secret.

  29. I love that ya'll are always going on "play dates." No one really calls them that here in Alabama, but I'm going to start the trend when I finally have a baby. It sounds like they are also "dates" for the mommies, and I am always up for social things!

  30. Whew! Leave town for a weekend and boy do the posts pile up! Finally caught up! Yay! Will have to try harder not to fall behind again. Pesky life gets in the way sometimes. :) Glad you were able to enjoy the sun some. We were at a lake in Louisiana and the kids all got about 5 or 6 hours of tubing in, so all is good. (I got many hours in sitting in a porch swing on the deck crocheting and talking - so all really is good!)

  31. how fun! I'm so glad you got a swim in; jackson looks so serious about his swimming!

  33. That is a cool place!
Wish we had a place like that in NC where I live.
My girls can't swim so I find being near a pool just makes me nervous instead of happy.
I need a non swimmer friendly place.

  34. I have to add a ps -
I think it is just the best that you have a group of friends with kids your kids age to have playdates with. That is priceless and the pictures are too!

  35. such cute cute pictures! We too have been battling this rain. God is blessing Big Tex in a big way! We got in and out today between sprinklets of rain to have some fun too. :) I have to say, you sound so happy in this blog. I can just see you smiling the whole time you were typing this. Not that you're not normally a happy person, but this one just seems contented. Like you've just had one of those amazingly blessed and happy days. It's nice to read something like this and smile and say, wow, she's really happy today! :) So smile one girl! :)

  36. That boy is quite the social butterfly and has the cutest girlfriends. I love that you have so much fun with him! What a blessing!

Our grandchildren have all been here today! How great is that!

You might want to drop by my place and see the award I paid forward to you. I just could not resist!

  37. I love the smell of Coppertone too! And Jackson is so funny splashing in that picture. That really sums up one of his "loves" this summer.

That look on Jackson's face in the background of Ella...that is priceless. He looks so determined to S-P-L-A-S-H that nothing's gonna stop him. He also resembles your husband in that pic. a lot.

  39. Mrs. Amanda - I'm just now catching up on 2 weeks wort of posts. We've been busy - very busy!

I love this post because I am also the mother of a toddler who does not want to sit still. Our playgroup is mostly girls and younger boys - so JD is in a league of his own. All the other mommy's get to laugh and talk, while I run around, sweat poruing down my face after my little man!

This is a good thing...I believe it's the only reason I'm not gaining a ridiculous amount of weight this pregnancy! LOL
