Beckham Antics
I'd like to thank my 80 lb. golden retriever for introducing us to our "new" neighbors today. We go for a leisurely stroll around the block - toddler in wagon, dog on leash, little plastic poop bag in back pocket because we're responsible like that. We see our two-doors-down neighbors greeting a visitor at their front door. Maybe this will be a good time to make eye contact, smile, and wave since we've never properly met them. Suddenly their little black dog comes running out of the house and jumps all over Beckham. Beckham goes crazy because he is all about having fun and making new bff's. Curt stops in his tracks so the owner's son can catch their little dog and take him or her inside. And then our dog, a.k.a. the abominable snowman, a.k.a. jug head, squirms out of his collar and RUNS INTO THEIR HOUSE. AND CHASES THE LITTLE DOG THROUGHOUT THEIR LIVING ROOM. AND THERE ARE PEOPLE FLEEING THE HOUSE BECAUSE THEY ARE AFRAID OF BIG DOGS. Nice to meet you, neighbors!
No way!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I got a good laugh out of that one this morning! Dogs & kids--that stuff just happens, right?
ReplyDeleteI am sorry for your rough encounter and greeting of your neighbor--but that was hilarious.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you were mortified-I would have been too.
Maybe you could send them one of your pumpkins with a little note. :)
Yes, a nice way to get rid of one of your pumpkins and make nice with you neighbors at the same time.
I love it! It sounds to me like a cartoon!
ReplyDeleteGIRL, do I ever relate on this one! Rylee did the very same thing to our new neighbors a few months back! And they are terrified of big dogs too! It seemed that they were constantly getting out (little Bella too), and this is how we met our new people.
ReplyDeleteHow come this NEVER happened in our last house??!! Beats the heck out of me. Humbles me too :)
Love you ♥
What a great post! I loved it! You have get one chance to make a first impression and honey, you did! How funny. This will become one of your favorite family stories when you get over the embarrassment of it! Your neighbors may not remember your names but they won't forget your dog's. Cute. Blessings.
ReplyDeletewhat a scream! sounds like your own blondie and dagwood movie! do you remember those? things always start out so normal then everything goes wrong. so funny!!!
ReplyDelete~janel
oh. That made me laugh. Very hard.
ReplyDeleteHILLARIOUS!! Did you run the other direction??? Completely horrified I'm sure! Hopefully Jackson didn't start screaming and crying. :)
ReplyDeleteI love that! That made me laugh so hard! I'm sorry it probably wasn't that funny at the time! We have two HUGE Golden Retrievers and I love their personalities! I can totally just picture it exactly! They don't want to miss out on anything! They LOVE everything (especially in the middle of everything ) They hate to be left out! : ) How are your "new" neighbors by the way! : )
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness - that is hilarious!! Love it!!
ReplyDeleteone time our neighbors came over to meet us for the first time. My dog Happy was so excited that they came in the house that 2 "terds" came shooting out of his bottom and scared my neighbors to death. and me too. it was hilarious AFTER they left. I mean they shot out of there like bullets!!! ha ha
At least you guys leave a memorable impression...
ReplyDeleteToo funny!
ReplyDeleteBut it was a love chase, right? Not a "come here little furry thing that thinks its a dog so I can show you real canine teeth" thing?
ReplyDeleteBecause love makes all the difference.
OMG! I laughed out loud at my desk sister! This is crazy!
ReplyDeleteThat's Funny!!!! Beckman should meet my dog Daisy aka..."the Beast". When she meets people she sprinkles them. Even the pizza delivery guy! Embarrassing!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, dear! You and the neighbors will either become best buds after this or never make eye contact again!
ReplyDeleteI know you didn't find it very humorous at the time, but it is hilarious! :) Glad to know we aren't the only one with a dog that LOVES to play with other furry creatures. :)
ReplyDeleteWe have a golden named Sport and he did the same thing. He ran right into someone's front door and scared their little children to death. Of course he justs want to meet everyone and give them a big kiss. Oh I wish for Sport's enthusiasm sometimes.
ReplyDeleteOnly in the Jones/Moore homes do things like this happen. I think God gives you and your mom extra great material for sharing at the conferences. Look for a spiritual analogy, it's got to be there! Your post was too much fun!! :)
ReplyDeleteToo funny! I get so tickled at dog stories...especially because we have some great ones. We have the dog (Cooper) that is scared of shiny floors...can you imagine taking Cooper to Petsmart to get groomed!?
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! How funny! Now that's what I call an introduction! Becks is a true Texan, go big or go home! :)
ReplyDeleteHilarious! I love the part about the poop bag...you are a good woman!
ReplyDeleteThat is hilarious! They will be your bestest of friends now!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like an episode of "I Love Lucy"!! You can't say you didn't leave an impression!?!
ReplyDeleteblessings,
steph.
That made me laugh!!! I hope your neighbors took time to get to know you! :)
ReplyDeleteLuckily it wasn't my house lol.
ReplyDeleteNot only would your dog been chasing my schnawzer, but 3 cats too...
And I would say,
" welcome to my zoo";
won't ya stay awhile LOL.
My black Lab Nicki used to go visiting in the neighborhood. She would walk into any open door and make herself at home. Most people knew her pretty well so it wasn't too bad. She scared the daylights out of a new mailman however. Our front door was open and she saw him walk up to the porch and FLEW out the screen door to greet him. He was pinned between the screen door and the porch wall terrified! She was big even for a Lab and VERY friendly!
ReplyDeleteLOL! This is horrible girlfriend!
ReplyDeleteI have had many a hectic neighborhood chase downs myself...it's awful! You're trying to be all calm and maintained about your dignity on the outside, knowing that you lost it as soon as your ponytail ended up being on the side of your head and you are clunking waddle style after a dog!
OH NOW, that is a Hoot and a half! Ha ha...not laughing at you, but really now that is some good blogging material. I can see it happening.
ReplyDeleteAww...thanks for the laugh today. I think it helped my cold :)
This is a classic worth remembering. I love family classics. They bring a smile everytime someone brings them up.I hope your neighbors weren't scarred for life. :)
ReplyDeleteI am literally laughing out loud. That's too funny!
ReplyDeleteOur dog, Ozzie, has actually gotten into other people's cars!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should cook something for the neighbors in your spiffy new red crockpot, and take it to them, sans Beckham?
Blessings!
jan
THAT IS HYSTERICAL!!!
ReplyDelete"Nice to meet you neighbors" :)
I would have died!!
So funny!
Kim
I LOVE golden retrievers! They are the BEST!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like the way I would end up meeting my neighbors. :-)
ReplyDeletei am rolling!! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm just sitting here with my jaw on the floor. Although my border collie ran into my neighbor's back yard once through her garage. She actually hates us and our dog, so that brought up all sorts of fear within me.
ReplyDeleteSo funny! I think our dogs might be friends. My black lab likes to do the same thing, even while pushing elderly ladies down because she's sooo excited!
ReplyDeleteThat was so funny! I'm sure you didn't think so while it was happening, but.... Don't you love it when they pick those times to act up? I bet Jackson thought it was a big show!
ReplyDeleteOh my god.
ReplyDeleteRough encounter.
It's a way to break-the-ice that's for sure. I'm sure they thought it was funny when it was over. Although not sure about the people fleeing from the house. hmmmmm
Jillian
That has happened to me! I was in my apartment in college and when I opened the door, a dog ran in! It was hysterical! I am sure that you were very gracious and the neighbors fell in love with how adorable your precious family is and instantly forgave you :)
ReplyDeleteOh My Gosh!! I would be soo embarressed and probably go into cardiac arrest-except that I would be running behind my dog through their house trying to get him out!!
ReplyDeleteI was already absolutely ROLLING over this post and then I read Leigh Gray's comment and just about wet my pants. This is too funny!!!
ReplyDeleteis your dog named after david beckham??
ReplyDeleteI bet that was Beckham's best day ever! A dream come true.
ReplyDeleteI laughed so hard!!! THANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness, that is hilarious!!! maybe jackson could take some choc.chip cookies over to your neighbors to make amends?? those big blue eyes with a plate full of homebaked sweetness...a combo sure to make the best of friends ;)
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!!!! Like brother like sister! When I brought my house last year, I had them put in an extra large doggy door. One of the first neighbors we met has a small Pomeranian (Honey). They have a small doggy door. Well when Miss Bella (Beckham's litter mate sister) met Honey she apparently (according to the neighbors) chased Honey and squeezed her big self (sheer determination or all God)through their small doggy dog and played in their house.
ReplyDeleteWell needless to say - my neighbors and I (and Bella) have become really good friends.
Bella would love to see her brother again! It would be great to see them at it with each other.
Goldens are the best!
i can almost see your face now!! i wish i could have been a fly on the wall!
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny. Maybe you and the new neighbors will become good friends and get a big kick out of this one day. Enjoyed my visit to your page. Thanks and God Bless!
ReplyDeleteSo, did you end up getting to meet your neighbors? God has a great sovereign way of doing things huh? :) love you!!!
