I have to share some funny and sweet things Jackson did last week. The first one happened on the night my parents babysat while Curt and I went on our date. For Valentine's Day, my mom and dad were sent this singing cat and dog thing.
Jackson is obsessed with it. That night when my mom was putting him to bed, he wanted to listen to it one more time. For the first time ever he tried to sing along. Since he didn't know the words, mom told me he was singing, "Dadda...Mommy...Dadda...Mommy."
Later that week we were back at my parents' house and mom and I were playing with the little man. His back was turned to me and, as I often do, I gave him a play spanking on his little hiney because it was so cute. I promise it didn't hurt him. It was like when you're riding a horse and you give it a pat on the neck. He spun around and made a funny face at me like "Why'd you do that, Mom?" Then he came around behind me and spanked me on the hiney. It was seriously one of the most surprising and hilarious moments of motherhood so far.
The last one happened on Saturday morning. Jackson and I were having breakfast together before I headed off to the mall with my mom and Lis. I have not been pushing him to say "I love you, Mommy" even though I am really looking forward to the day when he says it. I want it to be on his own and not because I made him repeat it back to me. We were doing the whole "How much does Mommy love you? This much? No! THIS much? No! THIS MUCH? Yes!" Then I said, "How much do you love Beckham? Etc. How much do you love Daddy? Etc." He played the little game with me and then I stopped. Then he looked at me and said with lots of enthusiasm, "Mommy!?!?"
"Yes, son?"
"Idoveyoudismuh."
Melt my ever lovin' heart, why don't you? Now that'll set you up for a great Mother's Day weekend, won't it?
I have to add one more that I forgot about. We were driving somewhere last week and I was singing loudly to one of the songs on Passion's Hymns CD (which is old but great). The song ended and I kept singing it during the pause before the next song. Suddenly I heard, "Mommy, no!" from the back seat. Jackson apparently couldn't stand the sound of my singing voice when it wasn't covered up by the loud music. That's exactly why I try to seat myself on the end of the front row and in front of the speakers during worship services. No one in front of me, no one to one side of me, and good vibrations covering up my joyful noise! Amen?
*I posted the sopapilla cheesecake recipe on the LPM blog today if anyone wants it.
oooooooooooooohhhhhhh this is so sweet!!!!!!!! i am so glad you have waited to let him say it!!!!!! sounds like it was worth the wait!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is definitely a moment to remember forever. Much like mine on Mother's Day when I told my soon-to-be 3 year old that I loved him. His response? "I know!" in a very exasperated, teenager voice. They grow up too fast!
ReplyDeleteJust printed it up and will make it for my family soon! THANK YOU!!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I gave up sugar about two and a half weeks ago :( Wahhh! Fortunately I have lost 7 pounds! Woohoo! Many, many more to go...but it's SO worth it.
Much love to you and prayers this day,
holly
That is the sweetest thing - I still remember when both of my boys said I love you mommy and they were about 2 also
ReplyDeleteMy youngest went through a stage a few months ago where he told me I love you 950 times a day
It started to get on my nerves and then I remembered that one day he won't be with me all day to tell me every second that he loves me
Not to mention the teen years when he might rather die then tell me he loves me so...
That helped to put everything into perspective :)
Oh and I pat my boys on the bum too it makes them laugh
Have a great day
Kim
Those are great!! Seriously!
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way about singing. I love to do it but I'm not that great at it. A lot of the times in church if my sound can't be covered up I just mouth the words. I certainly don't want to be a distraction in someone else's worship experience! I just sing loudly in my heart!
I bet you wished you had a video camera for that one! He is sooooo cute! I can tell you are cherishing every single moment of his life! Thanks for sharing these adorable stories with your Siestas!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Angie xoxo
Oh, Amanda. My singing voice has been known to cause small children to pull their ear drums out and play 'em like bongos.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day Amanda! I love these stories. Once they hit 2 it's a whole new world. Tobey cracks me up all the time. Whenever I get onto him he has started smiling really sweetly and saying Sorry. He also does not like for us to sing in the car and if he is singing you better not mention it or he clams up. So I try not to make eye contact when he is singing because I love to listen to it.
ReplyDeleteSopapilla cheesecake was a huge hit! I only had one bar of cream cheese, so I used non-fat plain yogurt for the rest. It was still really, really good!!
ReplyDeleteThose stories about Jackson are precious! It had to just make you become a puddle to hear him say he loves you. He is going to be such a momma's boy!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat gave me tears Amanda!! There is nothin sweeter. Really. I know I say this all the time, but love him to pieces. Constantly. Non-stop Jackson lovin! :)
ReplyDeleteNow, I'm headin over to the LPM blog. Yum!
Blessings~
Fran
Your recipe sounds good, Amanda but I'm not a cheesecake fan. Does it taste cheesecaky?
ReplyDeleteLove that you got your first "I love you" from your son. Magic.
My baby laughed at me -- for the first time -- on Mother's Day Eve.
ReplyDeleteSigh.
God sure gives the best gifts, doesn't He? And this is just a Hallmark holiday, too.
Oh Amanda...
ReplyDeletethose moments are PRICELESS.
Thanks for sharing.
Those words Ilove you are the sweetest words that a Mom will ever hear. Our little grandson will be 2 in July and take care of him while his Momma and Daddy work... I have the privilege of hearing I love you daily.
ReplyDeleteI always play Christian music in the car and the other day he started singing "holy, holy... it's the best!
Enjoy these years and how blessed your Mom is to be able to spend quality time with Jackson.
fyi...........ZARA is my favorite store EVER!!!!!!!!!! we went to the one in cancun and they have the best dresses!!!!!!!!!! fun fun fun!!!!
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain. My sons used to tell me to be quite when I would sing. LOL!! Actually, they still do. heehee
ReplyDeleteLove,
Patty
My kids get mad at me when I sing too :)
ReplyDeleteThat Jackson, he puts a smile on my face too. :)
ReplyDeletethese are so sweet amanda
ReplyDeletebeing a full time nanny i get to witness several sweet moments during my work days...but the best was when my favorite 1 1/2 year old learned how to sing "God is in Control" from watching his mama sing it on stage every night and was incapable of singing it any other way than screaming it at the top of his lungs. the best is when he would burst into song while getting his diaper changed :)
Thank You God, that Your word says
ReplyDelete"Make a joyful NOISE to the Lord". Otherwise I would never get to sing. Also, I know how good it sounds for little ones to say "I love you, mommy" but just pray that they keep saying it when they are teenagers. Fortunately for me, my son said it in the teen years and is still saying it today and he is 36 yrs. old.
Just wait until he starts singing those praise songs on his own. You'll be mush.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter's favorite is Nichole Nordeman. I died when she was 3 and belted out, "you make me wanna be brave." That will FOREVER be one of my favorite songs!
Emily
Those are truly some Mother's Day memories. Brady doesn't like my singing either, so don't feel bad.
ReplyDeleteWhat sweet little snipits into the life of Jackson. These moments are what is remembered for years. Happy Belated Mother's Day.
ReplyDeleteJust so precious! A spanking and an idoveyou in one week? That's a good week!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE IT ALL! How cute that he gave you a love-spank, those little butts are so cute! I can't wait to make the sopapilla cake...Janelle has with held from me! And I LOVE that Jackson said he loved you. They are just too sweet for words!
ReplyDeleteI was gonna ask you for that recipe...mmm...
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I found your blog. Your little stories just make me giggle. :o) The Lord blesses us in so many ways by our little ones!
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet!! I love to hear things like that!!
ReplyDeleteAmanda,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing your stories! They will always be so precious. My first son had a bit of a speech delay and this is just terrible, but I don't remember when he first actually said the words "I love you"! However,I will never forget that day we stood in line at the post office together. I was holding him and I whispered "I love you" in his ear and kissed him. Just a few seconds later he looked at me, took my face in his hands and turned my head so that I was looking at him and planted a kiss on me. I knew at that moment that if he had the words he would have just said, "I love you Mama!"
Precious times! Happy Mother's Day!
Yea for Jackson! He is the sweetest. So neither Jackson nor Ella likes their Mommy's singing voices. I think we should start a band.
ReplyDeleteNothing sweeter than when our little ones say 'I love you' without prompting. I love that.
ReplyDeleteI made the Sopapilla Cheesecake last night. My family loves it and I love it and I need someone to come and take it out of my house. Certainly not low-cal but worth it!
that is soo sweet...just wait until he looks at you and says "mom your my best friend". My 3 1/2 year old told me that for the first time about a month ago and everytime he tells me i almost cry still.
ReplyDelete"Idoveyoudismuh" - Absolutely precious!
ReplyDeleteHey Amanda,

I connected to your page from my friend Erin's blogger. Hope it's okay that I am a new reader. God Bless You today!
ReplyDeleteThat made my heart melt for you. And the sopapilla cheesecake? Awesome. We make them for our Christmas or New Years every year. But the OFFICIAL name is "those cream cheese crescent roll thingies that Christie used to make" (Christie is my sister's sister in law and she introduced them to us before she moved to Georgia 5 or 6 years ago). But if you want to call them sopapilla cheesecake then I guess you can. :)
ReplyDeleteAwwwww! He is at such a fun age! I am so glad you are enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteThat's yummier than sopilla cheesecake.
ReplyDeleteOh, that little voice must have been so sweet. I remember a friend telling me that as sweet as babies are, there is nothing like it when a child comes to you, throws their arms around you, and says, "I love you!" I think she was right. :) Love the hiney story, too.
ReplyDeleteJust finished making the cheesecake 2 hours ago. My dear, sweet, hungry husband (that told me he'd rather I just make him my normal cheesecake and not try to re-invent the wheel) has eaten nearly half of it already!!! He's also put in a request that I make another one soon! I don't think I'm going to get a chance to find out what it would have tasted like after being refrigerated!!! Thanks for sharing such a yummy, husband-friendly recipe!
ReplyDeleteI tried that sopapilla cheesecake and all I can say is my hubby and kids and I ate it up!! It lasted 10 minutes! THAT is the yummiest thing I have EVER eaten!!! And with it being sooo easy...uh-oh!! Praise Jesus for 'fat free' cream cheese!! Only He knows what it's really made of, since the very name is contradictory, but YA-Hoo!! We will be eating it OFTEN!! Thanks for sharing it, Amanda!!
