Confessions

I just feel like copying people this week. I have zero creativity right now. Thanks to the lovely Bianca Juarez for sharing her confessions today. Here are mine.

-I'm a bad loser. Curtis whipped me at Words With Friends last night and I pouted about it.

-I left my dog out in the cold for too long yesterday and he came in shivering. I felt so bad! So I invited him up on the couch and covered him with a wool blanket. And tonight I gave him some chicken tenders. I hope he's forgiven me.

-I don't really like playdates. I'd much rather hang out with my friends without my children present. I know, it's terrible.

-My New Year's resolution for 2011 is to not freak out all the time. Or any of the time. I have another resolution that I can't tell you about. That was a non-confession.

-I'm taking 12 of my friends from Sunday school to a conference about s-e-x. All the husbands are ecstatic.

-Curtis and I are just now taking down our Christmas tree. This year we got a fake one because I'm allergic to pine trees and get sick every December. Having a live tree has always been worth it to me, but I hit a wall after last year. And when you don't get home from the holidays until well into January, it's just bad news. It wasn't that pretty and it didn't inspire a sense of wonder, but I have my health! Also, I believe the fake tree's greatest strength and weakness lies in the fact that there's no hurry to take it down. Now I must get off the computer and oversee the packing away of our Christmas keepsakes.

I hear ya on the playdates, girl!

Dude - what I wouldn't give now to be in your Sunday School Class! (wink!)

I'm laughing a little, because I'm wondering if the non-confession has anything to do with the conference ;) [feel no obligation to post this comment]

I clicked the link...I bet it's going to be a great conference. I read the book with a group of friends and have read the book for couples - Intimacy Ignited - it's pretty graphic. Be prepared to blush a lot :)

Ditto the playdate thing...if I'm with my girlfriends I want to talk, not chase my kids. I can do that here in a much more confined space.

I hate losing at Words With Friends, too... screen name "parresia" if you want some easy competition! :)
I don't like playdates either, you are not so terrible! :)
if you figure out the not freaking out all the time thing, let me know... I could use some help!
I am contemplating artificial... just so I can keep it up longer! :)

I'm a bad loser/pouter, too. Hanging out with girlfriends with no kids, definitely! Talk about not freaking out, my first Scripture memory verse for the new year is Phil. 4:4-7 about not being anxious. I've had too many panic attacks in the last 11 days that I'd like to admit. And for those of us who can't go to that conference, if there's any way to share highlights and what you learned in a way appropriate for the internet, I'm all ears. ;)

Those are just a few of my confessions I guess. Ha!

So, that's why we've never planned a playdate!

I'm a bad loser too. Ask Drews family. And don't ask them to play Monopoly!

Even though we just moved back to Texas and still unpacking, I'm seriously thinking of going to this conference. Wish all of my close girlfriends weren't back in Cali so I didn't have to go alone.

I will confess to the play date thing too! :)

I am with you on the playdates. Stress me out.

The first year we got a fake tree was depressing for me. Now (14 yrs later), I'm GREAT with it. No worries over fires, watering it and when to take it down.

So your 2011 resolution is to not freak out all the time, while mine is to not burst into tears everytime something even slightly negative crosses my path. Women are such wonderful creatures.

Oh friend, I hear ya! Except the tree & s-e-x conf. though I'm sure my hubs would pay big & for a plane ticket out* And, seriously, I left my dog out ALL Sunday in freezing weather. Poor girl, she's still waiting on the goods... & playdates?!? I'd take coffee dates, donut dates, cupcake dates or Mexican dates over playdates anytime! I mean food. Mexican food!.. Haha...

Oh & freaking out has my name all over it. When, Lord, will I fully learn?!

Love the post!

Amanda, get a pine scented candle next year with the tree. Like it is real!! If you ever want to play words with friends with a ky siesta let me know.

I also agree on the playdates! So glad that part of my life is over. Now playdate means my kid is going over to someone else's house and I'm not!!!! Very happy about that! Now that's really terrible! I'd be perfectly happy to let my friend take them away for a while! See, now that's truly awful!

Amanda-

- think the new year is a good time for confessions and I'm the same way when it comes to playdates. I used to beat myself up about leaving my son at daycare to meet a friend for lunch. Now I've learned I'm a better mommy by getting a break once in awhile.

I bet the conference will be fun! Ha!

Loved the confessions-keep them coming girl :)

i think even the word "playdate" is a tad creepy. i'd rather hang out with my friends sans kids, so you're not at all alone in that!!
blessings!!

Confession: I'm so trying to stop being a blog-stalker where I just read blogs and never comment. This is an attempt at overcoming that obstacle! :) I love your blog, Amanda! Thanks for keeping it real.

Amanda! (I'm a siesta and stumbled on your blog as well!)

Hey, I was the conference director for the Intimate Issues Conference at our church in Knoxville back in 2003. YOU WILL LOVE THIS CONFERENCE! Linda and Lorraine are amazing women of God. You will get very biblical information! Hope you guys have fun!

Kristi Stewart said...

Just one more thing...(you don't have to post this) I am also the women that you tried to help find my Compassion girl in Guatemala. I am still so very thankful that you were willing to do that for me!

At the age of 19 I was married and loved attending the Great Hills Conference in Euless with Barbara O'Chester,Ada Fergason...Beth Moore...It was at those conferences where my "view" of S-e-x changed. Being Raised in a very conservative, dysfunctional family, and being molested as a young girl, completely destroyed my idea of sex until those wonderful teachers helped this battered mind! At 43.... WOW was it worth it.My husband has thanked me numerous times for having listened to God, and Barbara O'Chester!

Tiffany said...

Can't wait for the conferance!

I am a horrible loser too...I was beating Jason so bad and he flys past me with a 99 point word. Not fair. I pouted. Told him he got lucky.

Shelli Littleton said...

Glad you know what you are allergic to. Something has been killing me since Dec 1st ... started in Texas, even in Florida! When the cold weather came in ... my grandmother would say, "Something blew into our part (of the country)!"

Amanda said...

Shelli, that knowledge came painfully! My parents had us tested when we were kids. It was not fun.

happymcfamily said...

We received the "Intimate Issues" book as a gift when we got married, along with a special box, some money bookmarking a particular page, and a portion highlighted about every time you make love putting a dollar in the box and then saving that money for a big trip such as an anniversary.

I CONFESS that we didn't stick with the box past the first year, and now that we are 8 and a half years of marriage in (and that 10 year is creeping up on us and we have nothing saved for it), I really wish we would have stuck with that one :-/.

You know that we are all dying to know what the non confession is!!!?!?

Dionna said...

What is "words with friends?"

Yankee Mama said...

I have that same confession as you! On my last playdate I cried on the way home-my darn pride!

-I don't really like playdates. I'd much rather hang out with my friends without my children present. I know, it's terrible.

Becky Kiser said...

Totally agree with you on the play date thing. 100%.

And that conference looks so good! I hope you write about it when you get back. That's hilarious (and not at all shocking) that the hubbies are excited!

laurensmommy said...

wow, I clicked on your link for the conference and saw that a girl I graduated high school with will be leading the worship for you ladies! Awesome!!

Allison said...

Looking forward to seeing you next weekend! So funny about confessions...I was just telling one of my friends this morning my "dirty little secret"...that I only wash my bra like every 6mos to a year!!! And now here my confession is for all of the world to see! Thanks for spreading the word about II! :)

Sarah said...

You are ahead of me...our tree is still up...*sigh*

I need to be in your SS class ;)

Shelli Littleton said...

It "was" painfully, wasn't it? Brian keeps saying we need to test Katelyn, too. Her nasal passages stay so "stopped up" (swollen) like mine. Can't breathe. She and I were just placed on Veramyst. I can tell it is helping her ... she's been on it longer than me. I just dread putting her through anything else ... I think I told you she had a kidney tumor as a baby ... chemo, the works. I try to keep her out of the dr's office as much as possible! :) But I think it's time we girls get tested ... you know, next week! or next month! ... for sure next year!

Lindsee said...

I loved this post so much I copied it. : )

Also, I just looked at that conference and saw that Jourdan (Burks) Johnson was leading worship! I'm part jealous and part very excited for you to hear her. I love her! She led worship for my girls retreat last year!

Krista said...

Is it bad that we have a real tree and it's still up??? ;) And we put it up the weekend after Thanksgiving? Guess I need to work on that...

Kristie said...

Wow. I may have some friends I need to take to that conference. We had a guy from our church preach back in October while our pastor was away on a missions trip. He was teaching about marriage and relationships. Since the pastor was gone... :) ...After he'd sent ALL the kids out (temporarily), he challenged all the married folks to make love at least 3 times within the next week. For some of our husbands, when faced with such a challenge, they are suddenly motivated to be, um, "overachievers." And for some of us, that was fun...but for other wives, the thought of "THREE TIMES--in ONE week!!!!" just totally had them freaking out. I so wish all my married friends appreciated sex for the heavenly gift that it is.

I pop in and visit occassionally and I do enjoy your posts! Your sense of humor and the "realness" of your stories! Congratulations on a successful blog and Greetings from South Africa!

Toknowhim said...

Totally agree with you about the playdate one :)

Also I think that is great about taking your friends to that conference...the husbands' responses are priceless...

Blessings, and I confess I am going to copy you and do the mom interview post :)

Ashley said...

Not a comment...just a question. I'm still trying to figure the blog thing out. How do you post a link back to another blog? Like how you linked to the other person's confession blog, without it looking like http:/.....? I'm thinking about doing a confession post...could be fun to see if friends would respond...but would want to link back to yours.

Amanda, when you say "freak out all the time," does that mean you're a worrier? I have battled fear and worry my entire life, at least all that I can remember. It's consuming, and I'm tired of how it sucks the life right out of me. Any tips on how you're planning to stop freaking out?

Kristen {RAGE against the MINIVAN} said...

I hate playdates, and I hate who I am on playdates. (See also: me trying not to freak out all the time). I am a much better friend without children around! A playdate is just a heap of unmet "adult conversation" expectations.

And one of my resolutions would probably be reinforced at a conference on sex, if you know what I mean . . .

I'm so glad to know someone else is allergic to real Christmas trees. I never knew why had such horrible headaches in December. Thought it was all the stress - and it was the tree. I miss the real thing but love that my fake one doesn't shed and doesn't need me to water it every day. :->

Im a regular reader, but have never left a comment. So, I read your blog because you keep it real and I like that. You dont pretend your someone your not or that your life is perfect. Oh, and you keep the Lord in it! And, I love your mom too!

The conference you are going to is sooo great! My friends and I went a few years ago and got a lot out of it. Praying you young 'uns do too!

I am so behind on reading your blog...so this is very late to the party. I totally agree about the play dates...complelely. And I am praying over your family...health, joy, wisdom, strength and courage in every way.

Love you,

(I'll be at the taping of Life Today on Feb 11-12, if you are coming, I would be so very happy to see you again!)
