Santa Monica

Hello, peeps. Sorry for the delay in updating. I've been terribly busy working off all the good food I ate last weekend, having Wednesday night college Bible study, and watching the second half of my 24 DVDs. I rented those DVDs from Blockbuster, so I really needed to stay up all night watching them to be a good steward. The two discs I have left are already a week late. I watched 8-10 p.m. late last night after Bible study. And then I woke up at 5:45 this morning and couldn't stop thinking about some crazy stuff going on in our lives. At 6:30 I rolled out of bed and watched the final two episodes. I could barely keep my eyes open, but I took the grand opportunity to see how Jack was going to save the day. (SPOILER ALERT - as if anyone is just now watching this six years later.) A) I just knew Nina was dirty! B) Sen. Palmer's wife is beyond horrible. C) I can't believe Teri died! After all that, she died! I'm not sure I have the energy to move past season 1. I might have to end it here.

Needless to say, I am exhausted. I just tried to take a nap, but as soon as I closed my eyes those anxious thoughts were pounding on the door of my eyelids. Dern those thoughts! Last night during Bible study we learned how to deal with them. Too bad I wasn't able to put those methods to work while I was half-asleep. I think I have mentioned several times that a developer is buying up our neighborhood in order to tear it down and start over. In the long run, this is great for our area. It's just too bad that the people who love it most are not going to be living here anymore. Actually, it is our decision whether or not to keep our house. There is just a lot to think about. Within the next week we will find out the game plan. I am going crazy not knowing what's going to happen.

Santa Monica was amazing. And no, I couldn't get that old Sheryl Crow song out of my head. Mom gave us each an envelope with spending money and we did our thang on Montana, which is a street with lots of fun shops. I even got to go in the boutique of the maker of Jackson's crib bedding. I had ordered it online, so it was fun to see all their products in person. There was a really cute piggy bank that would have matched his room, but that would have taken up a LOT of space and added a LOT of weight to my suitcase. It would have made much more sense to order something like that online so that I could fill my suitcase with more for ME! ME! ME! Totally kidding. Sort of. I was pretty tight-fisted with my money until we got to Banana Republic on the Promenade. Then I went a little crazy. What can I say? I know what I like. I now have some great new things for church. And a saleslady told me Michael Kors might be the next B.R. designer. Isn't that fun? He's famous.

Do you ever long for a piece of clothing or some shoes you used to have? I wish I had a new pair of my old Sketcher boots from high school. I loved those things and wore them until they were hideous and the heel was worn down an inch. I also really wish I could have another pair of some Diesel jeans I bought in college. I got them in the Diesel store in Paris and they were super cheap because of how strong the dollar was back then. That is not the case now. Diesel doesn't make those boyish jeans anymore but if I found some in my size I would buy them up. Well, I found a pair in a vintage store but they were ONE SIZE TOO SMALL! NOOOOOOO!

Other things we did? Ate at Ivy at the Shore, walked about 5 miles on our shopping extravaganza, people watched, saw real-life beach bums, watched the sun set over a mountain above the ocean, and wondered how we could convince Keith Moore to move to California. Yeah, not gonna happen. Curtis, yes. My dad, no.

Did y'all know that there was an earthquake near Los Angeles on Sunday morning? I didn't either. And that is an answer to many prayers sent up to heaven by little ole me. We were too far away to feel it. Thank You, sweet Jesus.

Until the sun comes up over Santa Monica Boulevard...

Sounds like such a fun weekend. I love girls weekend with my mom. And don't you just love it when mom provides the spending money?
I just found your blog-even though I've been reading the LPM blog since it began. Oh, and by the way, keep watching 24-each season gets better and more addictive!

Well, that is a dream come true to have an envelope handed to you to spend on yourself! And you deserve it! Can't wait to see all the BR clothes this fall.

Oh - your shopping trip sounds heavenly! I was dreaming of being there with you - shopping from a little envelope of cash - enjoying sunsets, good food, lots of giggles, and beautiful warm weather.
Let us know what happens with your house! Whatever it is, I hope you will feel good about the outcome.

Amanda, As soon as I read your previous post about your mom telling you to bring a bigger suitcase, I said to my husband, "Man, I wish someone would say that to me". My mom called from Atlanta literally minutes after and said, "I found a store with the cutest shoes and clothes and I need your size in everything". Glory! She called later to say she didn't have any luck finding my sizes .... yet. I said, "Get back in there, woman! Persevere! You can do it!!!"

I'm still waiting on the envelope filled with money. I must go pray now. :)

that all sounds amazing :)

i love the envelope with spending money (and glad to hear that we aren't too old to out-grow shopping allowances from mom! i wondered how that would go down as i got older!...actually my dad is more of the shopping nut if you can believe it. his key phrase for me to know that he is buying is always, "i don't think i've expressed my love for you enough lately" ...hahaha fine with me dad!)

praying about the house stuff..

I'm so glad you had such a great time...and laughter? Was there a lot of laughter? I hope so!

I'm praying for you...we have been in your shoes for this house thing. It's a heart-wrenching decision. Only you, Curtis and the Lord can figure it out. Praying for wisdom, peace and FAVOR.
with love,

Love it.

And I wanted a pair of my flared-leg jeans from middle school a few days ago...seeing as those things are making a come-back. But yea...I probably would only be fitting one of my legs into the two combined.

:) Glad you had fun! And hope you can get some rest soon. Casting the cares...

Oh my, Amanda. Just when do you find time to do all that you do?? I'm tired just reading your blog (tee hee). Seriously, I'm glad I bought seasons 1 and 2 of 24 (for $15 each) during Christmas at Target. Gotta love Target!! I've been watching the beginnings too. Yep, I'm a few years behind.

Your trip sounds heavenly. Just to have the time with your mom and baby sis is enough, but Santa Monica too?? Glad you had a good time. Been thinking about you and wondering how it went.

Gotta love moms giving out money! It's just the best!

Sorry about all of the neighborhood stuff! Keep us posted on your geographic future. :-)

If that trip doesn't sound like the ultimate chic fest I don't know what does...

And as for your house, wow, that's hard. But if you decide to sell, I hope you get a zillion dollars for it..:)

We did laugh a ton. Some of my favorite moments of hilarity are just not blog appropriate, seeing as how they are things girls talk about when there are only girls around. Not for the web. But let me say that I laughed outloud, by myself today for several minutes when I recalled something my mom and sister did. They are crazy.

Hey girlie...

So yea, appreciate that Sheryl Crow song...just another song to add to my brain to pop up in my head out of nowhere...thanks:-)
So I think I was in 8th grade when it came out..you too right?

I can imagine the conversations with you guys...hopefully they were more " tactful" then my mom's would be lol.
Just take a good guess, and you would probably be right.:)

Anyways, I thought I would stop by before bed, so I hope you have a great day:)

hey it's the same anonymous as the other day, i am sure you have a thousand of us, but i don't know how to have a name on this thing. anyways, i was wondering if at some point you could either post the book your working on, or the points about the negative thoughts.. also, i long to find my yellow box platform silver flip flops with a sequined "thong" part. i wore them with everything, and they were extremely obnoxious and tacky.
look on ebay for your jeans and shoes, or just find out the wash and style and google it. you may have already done that, but i usually am able to find what i am looking for.. not sure if you'll find the sketchers, but doc martins are coming back in?

Sorry about the jeans!!!

Much love!

we've never met..but we have some of the same blogging friends.
i could not read this entry and not respond to the 24 comments! (it is very much like crack)

you really should keep going..season 2 gets really good and is just as suspenseful!

anyway...i love your writing.
and your son is so cute!
i think we live near your mom's offices on 6? unless they've moved?
