Getting Ready for Summer

Deep breath in...deep breath out...it's Friday.

I have lots of thoughts this morning.

First of all, I know I've said this before, but I hate anonymous comments. I disabled them on my blog many months ago and it's been great. People are much less careful with their words when their name is not attached. My feeling is, if I have to look at your butt, do me the courtesy of showing your face.

Second, I'm not cut out for nursing in public. The nursing room at church is as public as I get, and even then I feel awkward. I use my nursing cover, but I'm not very graceful at getting the baby latched on underneath it and then she's waving her arms about and making the fabric billow. I probably end up doing the very thing I'm trying to avoid by using it. I wish I could care less.

Third, I bought Jackson some boxer briefs and they're impossibly cute. Does anyone else find it humorous that you can buy underwear at the grocery store? 'Cause I sure did buy them at HEB.

Here are some pictures of Jackson getting blessed with ice cream after he was so good at school and took a marathon nap there for his teachers. In fact, he did it twice this week. That was a first! Good job, buddy!

Here's Annabeth after we did a little shopping to get her ready for the summer. Summer's already here, by the way. We've been in the 90's this week. Baby girl needed some shades!

Behold, the first bathing suit I ever bought for my daughter. I remember Melissa and I going round and round with our mom over bathing suits from a young age. Remember those suits that were like two pieces but they were connected? Despite our begging and pleading, Mom never let us wear those. Looking back, they were u-g-l-y you-ain't-got-no-alibi. In a few years Annabeth and I will have our own drama, I'm sure.

Bathing suit + hat.

Bathing suit + hat + shades.

Here she is trying on one of her cute new bows. I love this expression. That day I had been really tempted to buy some new bows at Gymboree, but I resisted. When Curt got home he had a fun package for us with several new ones in it. Yeah!

I'm anticipating a great summer. The absence of morning sickness alone practically guarantees it.

Clapping for the wonderful pictures!!

Y'all sure do have some beautiful babies, Amanda.

Praying for you today...for your sis, too.

I can just see Jackson in about 12 years holding a can of Coke or a cell phone (will those be around then?) instead of an ice cream in that last photo! Baby bathing suits? ADORABLE! By the way, Land's End is having a sale on all bathing suits- 20-40% off. My virtual model looked real cute in hers! ha!

Number one, and I've thought about this a lot, is that you quite possibly have the best-looking children ever.

And B, I love "if I have to look at your butt, do me the courtesy of showing your face." That is awesome. And I'm sorry for my profile picture being my pretty dog. I'll work on that.

I always wanted one of those bathing suits too--my mom said no, thank goodness!
Babies in bathing suits and sunglasses-ADORABLE!! She's really so cute!

Your kids are such cuties and beauties! Annabeth looks adorable in her new swimsuit! I'm digging her cool hat and shades!

Have a great weekend and stay cool in this oh so hot and humid Texas weather! I'm trying to do the same here in San Antonio.

Blessings,
Sharon

That swim suit is DARLING! I'm looking forward to buying one for my baby girl this summer - I never got around to it last summer, poor thing.

You know what's funny about expressions like that? You'll see them on her face...even as that face changes. At least, that's how it is with me. When I look at my daughter's baby pics, I'm amazed at how different she looks, but how similar her expressions are.

Both my boys(6 & 3) wear boxer briefs! They're so cute in them. Except they call them their SQUARE underwear! :)
After those pictures of the ice cream blessing, I'm suddenly craving me some Blue Bell! :)

Annabeth is getting so squishy! I totally mean that in a good way. I ADORE rolls on a baby's legs and that double chin! The newborn chicken legs are presh, too, but nothing like a baby with rubber band wrists!

And Jackson is getting so big, too! Congrats on excellent nap times at school!!!

Praying for Melissa on her trip. I know y'all's fears are a little heightened right now, so I'm also praying for peace for you and your family.

Okay, I cannot stop giggling! That butt/face comment is profound. SO funny!! Well said! :)

And ya, I'm not sure there is anything quite as cute as toddler boys in boxer briefs...except, of course, little baby girls in polka-dot swimsuits!! ADORABLE!!!

The Ugly Beautiful said...

I just got done deleting a very rude comment on my blog that was left anonymous so that made me laugh! I agree. :) As for your pics...DARLING!!!! Isn't it funny how we want to show our stuff and don't care that out bellies hang all kinds of out when we're little and then when we get older we try and find any way possible to cover it all up?...at least I do! :) Enjoy the summer with your cute fam! :)

Phillips Family said...

I so remember those bathing suits you mentioned. My mom would not allow me to have one either. I thought it was quite the injustice of the world...however, I am now thanking her years later. Those things were anything but cute.

I love Annabeth's suit. Were you shocked by the variety in little girls swimwear when you went shopping for it? I have a boy and a girl and about fell over in Target when I saw (almost) string bikinis in toddler sizes. Um...no thanks. We'll stick with a pink and white stripped one with a turtle on it.

Traci said...

There is nothing sweeter than baby girl sunwear is there? Tell Jackson good job- you know summer is good for a boy- it tuckers them out- at least that was always the case at our house. Have a great weekend-

I didn't see anything when we were in the nursing room and in fact, I thought, man she makes that cover look so easy!

Boxer briefs are the cutest. Sage typically puts his on backwards! I need to get some for Kolby.

Swimsuits and hats! Oh my. And the new bow. Oh the sweetness on that girl.

The Wootens said...

I LOVE the summer pics! We are so busy trying to move into a new house/get the building of it finished...that I've yet to buy summer clothes for any of us, so all my kids have is lots of "gift" clothing from sweet grandparents...but your pics have me ready to shop!

Not that you asked for my advice on the nursing thing, but...

It kinda limits your wardrobe for awhile, but they have some very cute nursing tops out (and I always thought it was more comfortable to still use an additional cover, but I didn't panic as much if it slipped if I had on a nursing top)

...and if you aren't wearing a nursing top, try wearing button-down blouses and unbuttoning from the bottom (keeping the top 2 or 3 fastened), then instead of just flopping out of the top's neckline, you can just lift up the bottom and tuck kiddo underneath. Don't know if that helps any, but I think I'm the least-coordinated female in Georgia, and it certainly helped me to "unbutton from the bottom" when I was nursing. :)

Oh, and one more thing, if you're out with Curt and you just HAVE to nurse in public because public nursing will make less of scene than a screaming baby will (especially if she's screaming enough to make mommy leaky), make sure he's aware of your discomfort and have him sit close to you with his arm sort of around you/behind your shoulders so that you sorta have a place to hide...and he can keep talking to anyone who passes by and doesn't know where to keep their eyes focused...that'll help to keep you from feeling so stared-at. :)

Anonymous said...

I spent WAY too much money on my daughter's first bathing suit and matching hat. And here's what happened . . . . . I left my darling husband with the task of putting the bathing suit on while I took a shower. I came out of the bathroom and the suit was on backwards. When I saw what I saw, I gasped aloud. He asked me, "What's wrong?"

I replied, "Did you not notice her nipples were showing?" They were 100% uncovered. I love that man to death, but seriously!

Jennifer said...

Oh Amanda you are hilarious! I loved your one liner, "If I have to look at your butt than at least give me the courtesy of seeing your face!" I'm going to use that one!

I too was not a good public nurser. Always felt so awkward.

Your pics are ADORABLE!!! Annabeth is ready for a day at the pool - or the beach? (I'm definately a pool person. Love the ocean but am too afraid to venture in with my little ones... Or without them for that matter! Just the thought of coming into physical contact with a fish makes me want to hyperventilate!)

Love,
Jennifer

What cute babies! Well, you actually may not appreciate me calling Jackson a "baby"...which he technically isn't any more, hence the new boxer shorts! :) But when you're a "GanMamma" like I am.....all kids under 10 are "babies"! I remember when I was in my mid twenties and had an infant, an 18-month old, and a 3-year old, someone said to me..."My goodness! You have THREE babies!" I thought...oh no....my 3-year-old is SO grownup! She's NOT a baby! But now as I look back and as I look at others with multiple babies I totally agree with her....I did have three babies! ha And WHERE did the time go???

Thanks for sharing the adorable pictures of your kids!

HEB is great! My family & I don't call HEB by the letter name H-E-B like it's supposed to be called; we say "heb" (like a regular word that rhymes with the name Deb)... Guess that's what is to be expected from Northern grown folks. We lived in Texas several months before someone told us we were pronouncing the store's name wrong! We still say "heb".

I love Annabeth's first swimsuit...it is so cute! I can't wait to take Brennan swimming for the first time. And your Jackson: oh Amanda, he looks like such a big boy. It's delightful to see how much he was lovin' that ice cream.

Can't wait to read about Melissa's journey to India. Oh, did you take a picture of the saliva art?? Have a blessed Sunday, sister!

Oh girl. Be ready, because it will take all the strength you have in you to not buy ev-er-y-thing that you see in Gymboree for little girls. (I like to hit the clearance racks!!)

This is probably my daughters last year in it...we might be able to squeeze one more year in...but that all depends.

I have loved their clothes for the last few years and I am going to miss it. My husband and our checkbook, on the other hand, will be thrilled!

Little girls in bathing suits are just the sweetest esp. when they have rolls on the back of their thighs. Now my rolls are another story - not so cute :) I have another anonymous annoyance: when people say "Someone said" or "People are saying" and unload criticism and when you say "Who?" you get the whole anonymous rundown. I'm a minister's wife and faceless words are hard! You made me smile with the "if I have to look at your butt..." statement. It was so awesome. You have such a knack with words :)

Amanda, Have mercy on me, a former anonymous and "old lady" who didn't know about the "blog world" when she first found the LPM blog and then yours. It has been a tremendous blessing but when I first began, I was in such a hurry and knew noone who "blogged" and the easiest thing for me to do was just post anonymous. My intent was not to be sneaky or secretive. I'm just untrained and discovering this on my own. PLEASE FORGIVE!!

Sally, it's only a problem when people use it to be mean, which is definitely not all the time. Sorry about that!

I feel like a total hippy because I breastfeed in our nursing room at church. alone. with my cover over me. Hey, what's wrong with being modest?

Oh my... she looks SO much like Jackson. This is the first time I'm really seeing the resemblance!

And bathing suits, I haven't owned one in YEARS and Bug's already got 2! What's up with that?!

I love your blog! You've got the cutest little kids! Adorable! =) I have to ask...where did you get the little bow with the "A" on it? My little girl is 13 months old, but has no hair, so I'm always looking for cute headband bows for her!
