She Made an Impression

I'm gonna skip telling y'all how ready I am for this cold to pass (and not onto my babies) and just jump right into a neat little story about church last week.

Okay, so it was Annabeth's first time to go on Sunday morning. (Technically not her first time at church since we'd taken her on the previous Wednesday night.) I had her in the cutest little dress from the makers of Dwell that I found at Target. Here's a pic.

We went straight to our Sunday school class because I really wanted all my girlfriends there to see her. It was great fun. She'd been asleep, but the minute Les got up to teach, Annabeth opened her eyes. I decided it would be a good time to visit the nursing room and then take her to the nursery.

The nursing room is awesome. At our old church I had to nurse Jackson in his classroom behind a screen, so just having a nursing room is a luxury to me. In this nursing room, there are bunches of rocking chairs, a couch, a monitor to watch the service, and a changing table. It's so nice. Also, it's really fun to visit with the other girls in there. Annabeth ate okay, considering she was under my Hooter Hider and she doesn't like it too much. She wouldn't burp, but no big deal.

Once we finished, I took her down to the nursery and met our new preschool minister for the first time. Mrs. Scurlock was very sweet and escorted us to Annabeth's first little classroom after I got her papers filled out. She was looking so adorable and I couldn't wait to present my child to her first Sunday school teachers. They greeted me at the door and I handed my sweet, precious, beautiful baby over to them. As I did so, I said, "She's a really good baby. I hope she'll be good for you today!" (Famous last words, right?) Her teacher took her and started to bounce her in her arms a little bit.

I then bent over to sign her in, but before I could even finish, I heard a small commotion. A small commotion that was my infant daughter spitting up on her teacher. No! I looked up just in time to see the second round of spit up, which was more like projectile vomit, shoot into the air and land all over her teacher. Noooooooo! Thankfully, she was wearing an apron. But still. She was very gracious, but I felt so bad!

My dear Annabeth, the first thing you ever did in Sunday school was puke on your teacher. Bless your heart. It's not your fault that your mommy didn't try hard enough to burp you. It's not your fault that bouncing you after you eat upsets your tummy. And it's certainly not your fault that mommy needed some humility after being so proud of your adorableness. I'm so sorry, baby. At least we don't have to worry about whether or not they'll remember you this week.

Oh, dear Lord, please help me be humble about Annabeth in her Easter dress.

All Miss Annabeth wanted to do was have a dramatic introduction!!! And that she did! Mission accomplished!

Prayers and blessings,

HA! The last line made me laugh out loud!

Our nursing room is DARK. You sit behind a big window to watch the service in the DARK. I miss it. And let me tell ya, some Sundays, I have fantasized about going back there for a little snooze...maybe no one would notice that I didn't actually have a baby with me....

go big or go home, right?! :0)

So sad!!! In my opinion, the dress and bow still outweigh the puke.

I need to pray that same humble prayer bout Harper in her Easter dress.
But I am SCARED TO DEATH to take her to the nursery. Not because of germs but because she is so high maitenance I know my number will be popped up on the screen in big church every sunday and the nursery workers will learn to dread seeing us coming. ha!

I have so much to say:

1) I'm the preschool minister at my church(It's Travis'church, too.)and I'm very impressed that you are leaving her in her ss class on her first Sunday.
2) I love that you called it her "first ss class" and her "first ss teachers." I was a baby ss teacher for many years and I loved it when the new babies came for the first time.
3)I've noticed that you've got a thing for the big hairbows. I've written a little post about babies and their hairbows. If you want, you can check it out here...

I love me some big hairbows!

That's too cute and too funny! But so embarrassing for you!
We have a nursing room like that in our Church, too! I LOVED it! Ours' even has a little frig with little bottles of water for the Mamas! I would have never thought of that, but I'm so glad someone did!
What's crazy about this post is that I recognized Annabeth's dress, b/c my SIL posted pictures of my niece, yesterday, wearing that exact same dress. :)

She's just so precious! We are no strangers to projectile vomiting. We used to have to burp E over the bathtub it was THAT bad. I was always so nervous to hand her over to someone, especially after eating! I'm so glad y'all are back at church!

I work in the nursery at my church. We have a window set up with a crib for the first/newest baby in the nursery. That way people can come by. See the baby and go on, without jamming up the doorway. Plus, no germs are shared.
And as a side story. We wait for the parents (mothers) to leave and we immediately remove the bows and place them in the bag.
Sometimes we have 5-6 workers and up to 15 babies. It is hard to jump up and adjust the bows when they slip over the babies eyes or around their necks.
Later, when the services are about over, and the babies are all changed to dry diapers, we put the bows back on their heads and the mothers are so happy!

Loved the last line too--I'm sure Easter this year will be one to remember! I had a reputation, (really it was my kids but who can blame the kid when the MOM is right there,) for having children who always spit up all over their teachers. They also screamed the whole time they were in the nursery. The whole time. My son will finally go into his room by himself without a tear and he's 2 1/2...started doing this maybe two months ago. It's been a long childhood. For all of us.

All 3 of my boys were HUGE spitters and I would start sweating any time anyone would take them from me. I just knew they'd get the gift. And, most times they did. And every time they did, they were completely ok with it. God bless those precious nursery workers.

Happy Easter weekend Amanda. Already praying that we all have a real sweet time with Jesus.

hugs,
Fran

A memorable first!! It probably wasn't the first for her teacher, but she's so adorable who would hold that against her.

Can't wait to see her in her Easter dress and bow! Or will it be a hat like her mom's?

Happy Easter to all of you...

"Help me be humble about Annabeth in her Easter dress..."

I laughed OUT LOUD! Girl, you just said what every mommy of a baby girl (or big girl) should be praying every Easter!

I've got the girls dresses, cardigans, tights, shoes, and most importantly...custom made bows ready to go. Why go through all of that if you don't get to show them off!!! :)

Note to the SS teachers...NO bouncing Annabeth!

Annabeth looks absolutely adorable in that little dress!
I know you're having a blast with all the fun girly stuff.

I'm thankful there is such a nice nursing room at your church.

My dad's a preacher and I was taken to church when I was just one week old and have been a church lovin' gal ever since. I'm SO thankful for my parents who took me to church. It warms my heart to see young couples like you all doing the same.

Very sweet post. Happy Easter Amanda!

I'm loving Hooter Hiders. Did you also have Tee Tee Tee Pees? A sweet young mom friend of mine received some for her baby boy. Too funny!

Kelli said...

The big question is did she keep it off of her pretty dress? :)

Maybe there were a little bit of nerves thrown in there, it being her first day and everything. Easter Sunday will be spit free!

When you have a baby girl that cute it's hard to be humble!

SO funny! (And I love that photo of her with her newborn fists all clenched up--I love that age!! Except for the spitting up, of course. Grayson had reflux, so I feel your pain.)

I'm not sure which brought a bigger smile to my face...."Hooter Hider" or that Annabeth really knows how to make an entrance!

you crack me up!

and I think you are so brave to take her to Sunday School. I have a baby girl who is seven months old and I haven't yet taken her to the nursery. I want to wait till summer when I have time to volunteer there and get to know the workers etc.

Can't wait to see photos of the new Easter dress.

I just love taht outfit - it is so precious!

I had to chuckle a little. Bless her little heart and yours. I am so very sure that her teacher totally understood or she wouldn't be in the nursery. Her outfit is very precious.
I also enjoyed Melissa's post about your former Easter dresses and hats. That brought back many memories for me as well. One question? Did you ever get burnt by the curling iron on Easter morning? Well my sister and I both experienced that trauma. Many of our pictures had sad faces in them!!! So I have tried not to torture my daughter on Easter morning. However, she doesn't even like dresses...let alone fix her hair!! Bows...well they came out immediately. So I have given up. My ten year now can fix her own hair.

Have a blessed Good Friday.

Enjoy every minute of your sweet little one in her Easter dress. My babies are 16 and 22 and I still enjoy seeing them dressed up on Easter morning. Don't know why it is so different than any other Sunday, but it is. Hold her close and give her lots of sugar! They are not babies for long.

Kristi said...

Oh, I can so relate!! What is it about little girls in their pretty Sunday dresses? Although my boys will look handsome in their Sunday clothes I am sure, I am just DYING to put my girls' new dresses on them for Easter :). Maybe it is a Southern thing?!

Michelle said...

You know that the nursery workers wear spit up all day long...but you hate it when it is your child that does it! Poor baby...lets pray that her Easter outfit stays perfect!

From the second I read that she did not burp I knew exactly where it was headed! ha. And Addison does not the hooter hider either, she freaks out and starts flapping her arms. Not cool, especially on the 10 hour flight here, I was so embarrassed. Nothing like trying to be inconspicuous about it and your kid makes a scene! :)

Bless each of your hearts. At least the dress is darling! Also, hoping for no spit up sessions for Easter!
