Spontaneous Reunion

This past weekend some of my college friends got together for a very short, spontaneous, mini college reunion. What was so ironic was that we couldn't have planned it if we'd tried! Missy came down from Maryland for the first time with 5-week-old Nate. Maggie also happened to be in town from California with 6-month-old Lucy, whom we had never met. Wanting to meet the babies, Mel drove down from Dallas with 2-year-old Brynne. We got together for about an hour and talked up a storm. It was such a treat!

As we were leaving, we saw an armadillo in the yard. Missy's dad half-jokingly asked me if I had a shovel. He was tired of it digging up the yard. There was also a very young, dirty, stray kitten running around who kept jumping in our cars as we were trying to get the kids loaded. When I got in my car it smelled like cat poop. Hooray for all the wildlife.

Mel and Brynne spent the night with us, so we had a little longer to hang out. Like good little Aggies, we went to Freebird's on the way home. For some reason it wasn't very good that day, but the company made up for it.

When we sat down with our food, I asked Mel if I could bless it. She hesitantly said yes, but I thought nothing of it. I started praying. Then Brynne started shrieking like someone was stealing her candy. I looked up at the red-faced, shaking, screaming toddler across the table, unable to imagine what was wrong. It was me. I had not let her pray first! And I hadn't folded my hands right! This was one of the funniest moments of my life. Not so funny for Mel, who spent two minutes trying to console her sweet girl before handing over her Coke.

All better now.

When we got home to Curtis and Jackson, there was lots more fun to be had. The last meeting between Brynne and Jackson did not go so well. They had both been in a stage of not being able to share, but this time they were bff's.

Two spirited peas in a pod.

They both found a friend who could keep up with their energy. Here they are breakdancing during Yo Gabba Gabba.

Mel was encouraged when she saw Annabeth's laid back personality. It is possible for one high energy and one chilled out child to come from the same parents.

Our guest room is currently out of commission because Curtis is turning the attic closet inside it into a regular closet. Mel stayed with me in my room, which made it more like a slumber party. We didn't turn in until 1 a.m., and even then we laid in bed and talked for another 30 minutes. We were like zombies in the morning, but some donuts and tea helped. Shipley's was having a very good kolache day. Perhaps the best ever.

Our guests had to leave early. It was a very quick visit but so delightfully unexpected, so easy, and so fun. Bonny, we missed you and we're looking forward to a roomie reunion this fall when we can celebrate our big birthdays!

It's a bold statement to say that Shipley's was having the best kolache day ever. Maybe it was to make up for the Freebirds.

What great fun!! I think you've shown that spontaneous reunions can be as fun and memorable as the ones you plan forever.

The pictures of the kids are very cute. I love the ones you put on the Melissa's birthday wish today! Our two used to build 'forts' all over our house! They liked the dining room table best, 'cause it stayed better!!

Thank you for sharing your fun websites for kids clothes! We just found out our son (Aggie '98) and his wife are expecting their first baby! I'm bitin' the bit to go shopping for this little Aggie. Well, okay, I already bought a onesie and 'born to be an Aggie' home from the hospital cap! I promised that would be it for awhile.

Have a great week!

Yay for girl time, time with friends is great! Jackson has got the best smile, seriously! I have to act like a fool behind the camera to get my kids to smile, and even then it can be tough! He is a cutie pie!

What fun for y'all!

And I must say...I drove thousands of miles to Texas and back last year and the only armadillo I saw, was squished. Not fair.

Shipley's. Freebirds, and college roomies... what more could you ask for? And I am going to have to say that I had the same experience at Freebirds last Saturday. Maybe it is because they remodeled. :)

'It is possible for one high energy and one chilled out child to come from the same parents.'

I need that kind of encouragement myself. My 2 year old is extremely spirited!

I love Anna Beth's outfit! Is that from Etsy? She has the best clothes!

You look beautiful and I'm so glad you got to hang out with your college friends.

Your children are just beautiful. And I'm totally fascinated with the armadillo! I've never seen one.

It really is a shame that Lucy does not like to eat. Seriously!

That sounds like so much fun. Too cute about the prayer.
Did you go to the Freebirds in Houston?
Brian has gone there a few times and definitely agrees that it is not like the one in CS. He has plans to "write a letter" about Aggie Spirit and how he was so excited and then so let down about Freebirds. That might be taking it too far, but anyway! Hope to see you tonight. I have my neice and Brooke is cutting a molar, so we will have to play it by ear.
Talk to you soon.

Yay, spontaneous friend time!:) The pics made it look like lots of fun! Armadillo in your yard??? We never get those around K-town. It's lovely here though when you can smell that a skunk has been in your yard!

Blessings, ((HUGS)) always, love in HIM,

Looks like you had a lot of fun with your friends. Makes me miss my gal-pals, too.

I've been to Freebirds here...it's not the same as the original in C.S., but I enjoy the memories that it brings when we do go.

Hmmm...haven't been in since Valentine's a year ago when I took the hubs out for dinner. Now I have a craving for a monster...
