It Almost Wasn't Tear Free

If you care to know my favorite scents, and I know you do, they are as follows: Obsession for men, sugar cookies in the oven, waffle cones, horse sweat, drug store aftershave, lavender, fried chicken, and Biolage shampoo.

How many times have you devoted yourself to a certain shampoo that smelled oh so good and suddenly they changed it? It's horrible, isn't it? I used to love Pantene back in high school, but when they changed the scent I gave it up in protest. Luckily, Biolage has hung in there all these years with the same great smell.

I hate how expensive Biolage is, but occasionally I splurge. I started running out of my supply last week. I kept the bottle upside down in hopes of making it last longer. At some point it was inundated with water and my last shampoo was severely diluted. It still lathered up, so I wasn't worried about it. My hair ended up looking horrible for church that morning and I think that must be why.

Today was hair washing day again. I wish I were one of those blessed people who only has to wash their hair twice a week. There's no telling how many years of my life I have wasted with a hair dryer to my head. Anyway, right before I stepped into the shower, I remembered my diluted shampoo. I could either run upstairs and grab the Suave out of the guest shower (sorry, guests) or I could try to get one more wash out of my Biolage. I opted for the latter.

Sixty seconds later I realized my terrible mistake. There was only enough left to get the front of my head. The Suave was well past being an option and I was stranded without Curtis at home to help me. Then I saw the Johnson and Johnson baby hair and body wash sitting on the ledge of the tub. Are you kidding me? Baby shampoo for my horse's mane? But what else could I do?

I soaped up my head and hoped it would bring me better results than I'd had with my diluted Biolage. The shame of sharing my infant daughter's shampoo wrapped around me like a bath sheet. Don't ask me why, but I had visions of Monica Geller after her jellyfish encounter at the beach. Oh the shame.

An hour later my hair was dried with a round brush and straightened with my Chi, as always. It looked about as good as third day hair. Thankfully, it is now raining and no one is expected to have good hair in this kind of weather. I must add that my baby bangs are now in the sticking straight up from my part phase. I've got it goin' on like never before, y'all!

Tonight Curtis and I get to go on a date. We're seeing The Blind Side. I can't wait! Hopefully my man will be blind to the tragic state of my locks.

PS - The movie was great. We loved it!

You will LOVE The Blind Side! I'm going to see it for the second time tonight. :)
Enjoy your night out!

Was it normal Johnsons & Johnsons or lavender-scented? Because that can make up for it.

(You know what's worse than having your favorite shampoo change its scent? Getting pregnant and having your favorite shampoo give you the dry heaves. I tried to shop for something new, but ... well, let's just say pregnant woman shouldn't smell a bunch of shampoos in the first trimester. I almost lost it right there in Target.)

I think your hair is luscious. But I sure wouldn't want to take care of it! I've heard amazing things about Blindside. Enjoy!

Hope you have a great date night. I want to go see that movie too. Try the generic Biolage. It's called Bioterra. I get it at Sally and it smells wonderful. I agree about Pantene too.

hee hee!
- I love the smell of biolage, too!
- cant wait to see the Blind Side
- my "baby bangs" are at the stage where they look like little horns on my head...or like I burned off a big patch of my hair with my Chi... I only have one little patch on each side of my face... weird...
oh, and
- I'm one of those peeps who only has to wash my hair twice a week! :)
Hope date night was fun!!!

This is EXACTLY what happened to me! My upside down color extend Redken was totally out b/c like you, I was in denial, but I was wet & committed to the shower process. And, there was my 3 year old's Johnsons Baby shampoo. Desperation. Grossest hair ever. So frizzed out. Horrible.

On another note... Hubby & I had a date night Friday night when my mom kept all our boys & we saw Blind Side. LOVED IT! You will be blessed.

And thirdly, hubby & I wandered into the mall after the movie (sans little people = a thrill) and low & behold my Redken color extend shampoo was totally on sale & I got 2 shampoos & 2 conditioners & will never let that Baby Shampoo nightmare happen again! I may have baby bangs X's 3 kids, but they are gonna be highlighted & color extended by some quality shampoo sister!!!
Have fun!

Funny I was thinking the same thing recently...how many years I have wasted blow drying my hair. Sigh. The Blind Side...so good!

"blind to the tragic state of my locks." You crack me up, girl. Well, I have a solution for your baby bangs! Just as mine were starting to get managable since my daughter was 11 months, I found out I was pregnant again! Nice...my hair is growing much faster thanks to pregnancy #3 and prenatal vitamins! lol Enjoy your date! That sounds nice right about now..

I am severely sensitive to smells, too! I swear that my husband always smells like graham crackers, and somehow that's been inherited to my little girl.

Oh--and a styling tip for baby bangs: spray a toothbrush (one that you're not using, of course) with hairspray and use it to comb those baby bangs down. You have to spray the toothbrush rather than your hair, otherwise it will look very crunchy and possibly (in my case) greasy.

Hope that helps! Loved this story.:)

Too funny! My old boss used dog shampoo for a week before she got new shampoo... it could have been worse.

Hope you enjoy the movie! I have heard it is fantastic!

It's amazing how we get stuck on one shampoo! My favorite has been Kerastase for the last 12 years, but I have to drive to Houston or Dallas to get it and I've decided that it's really not worth it! I totally understand using your best down to the last drop!

I hope you enjoy The Blind Side-we loved it! Sandra Bullock did a great job, I tho't!

HA! You are so funny. I thought you were going to let us all in on a great shampoo secret. I feel you on the baby bangs, I just noticed how mine were doing that same thing to day! (I have my daughter Feb. 15)

Hope you enjoy the movie I want to see it so bad!

Horses sweat??!!

I hope you guys enjoyed your night out. My husband and I want to see The Blind Side too... Let us know what you thought of it. My 10 year old loves football and is dying to see it, but judging from the Plugged In review there may be some scenes inappropriate for him??

I'm sure your hair looked wonderful for your man!

Love,
Jenifer

I am sure you looked adorable! Nothing a ponytail can't fix : )

Awesome. I'm guilty of filling my shampoo bottle with water to make it last longer too...and my whole family hates me for it. My sister tells my husband she's glad she has "full-power" shampoo now that I don't live with her anymore. Hope you liked the movie! I really liked it and it made me feel less guilty for my twang...

That's a Awesome movie! Good luck with getting a "refill" soon! :)

The movie is so great he won't care if your hair doesn't look perfect! Plus, I bet he thinks it looks much better than you think it does. He love you. :) Husbands are great like that.

I love that you mentioned Monica and the jellyfish. That reference makes me smile really big! And I definitely know what you mean about the smell of shampoo.

The movie is awesome...you won't need to worry about your hair but your mascara might be another story. I hope it's waterproof! We saw the movie on Saturday and we all absolutely loved it. A great message on the power of love in action.

Oh my, oh my. Thankfully you are married and Curtis does not just love you for your locks. (Which are amazing by the way) and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVED The Blind Side too!

I am totally a shampoo snob and Biolage happens to be my shampoo of choice. I too hate the price of it, but I like how it treats my hair. However, what I've learned to do is that every year Beauty Brands has a huge blowout sale, and their liters of shampoo are $10. ONLY $10!!! It's great. So no lie, I stock up. This last time I bought 2 shampoos and 2 conditioners and even had a coupon! Great savings, friend. Great savings. It normally happens in August, so if I were you, to avoid the baby shampoo tragedy again, I'd go for that! Just a tip!

Also, I've seen The Blind Side twice already. I hope y'all LOVED it! Most definitely the "feel good movie of the season!"

I love my shampoo and it costs a little more than I like to pay as well, but there are certain things a girl has to splurge on. As I'm reading this I'm smiling because my big bottle is turned upside down in the shower too. I have another brand new huge bottle, but I'm not about to waste a drop of it.
I can't wait to see The Blind Side. I've heard so many good things about it.
Glad you had a fun date night!

If I tell you I am one of those girls that can get away with washing my hair twice a week we'll still be friends right? I would have never been able to get the tangles out without conditioner. I have yet to see you hair look terrible, I don't think it's possible. I want to see that movie so bad I think I could scream!! Glad you had a great time!

Heather said...

Matt tells me all the time how much of my life I waste by doing my hair. He insists that I just let it air dry and go. HA!! Can you believe that? don't men know we girls like to look our best? We have had quite a few arguments over my hair. Pathetic, I know.

I used to have a horse and I still love the smell of a stable and all things horse.

jennyhope said...

I can't wait to see that movie! With hunting season I will either have to go by myself or wait until it comes to the dollar theater.

OK, since I think we sort of have the same hair texture (and only if you have time to answer) what kind of shampoo is the Biolage?

I would have had to get the baby shampoo over the suave any day! =)

My baby bangs are interesting right now as well and I've added some unique side burns (GASP!) At least I can tuck those behind my ears. Thanks for the toy suggestions too, Amanda!

I hope you had fun at the movies! We tried to see it on Saturday and it was sold out! Bummer!

I am guilty of using my child's shampoo.

We loved The Blide Side, too! I cried through the whole thing. Just made my heart tender.

Have a great day!

My baby bangs are EVERYWHERE!!!

I used to love Biolage--but the price was just too high. I've been faithful to TRESemme; however, I'm thinking I'm going to switch. My hair is just not feeling it anymore. It needs a pick me up! :)

I've tried the Suave Professional series and they seem to work alright. Have you tried them? But you know the scent I love??? Green Apple Suave--I just don't necessarily love my hair afterward. :)

Prayers and blessings,
Rebecca

p.s. I have to wash my hair every. single. day. Seriously.

We give Max baths using Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo. I always feel kind of bad that when Eli is here, we bathe him with the dog's shampoo.

Jennifer said...

I too have the "have to wash a hair more than twice a week" hair. The only time I have good hair is when I am pregnant, so I am living it up right now!

AKat said...

Oh, Amanda. I didn't know the horror of baby bangs!!! I thought they were supposed to be cute, like Katie Holmes' had with Suri. I was actually eagerly awaiting their arrival.

And then...I lost all my hair until I was practically bald. And then...I sprouted FUZZ. And now... I, too, have inches-long new growth shooting in all directions from my forehead and part!

I feel your pain and can only imagine what baby shampoo did to those short hairs!

Last week I had a crazy stuffy nose and decided to try to wash my hair with Johnson and Johnson's vapor bath. I wouldn't recommend that either.

I love Biolage too!! I need a new straightener, so please share exactly what kind/size of Chi you have. I usually buy the cheap ones and then they die, so I'm ready to make a commitment for a more expensive one. Any Chi info you can share will be most appreciated! Thanks

Amanda,
I just wanted to stop by here to thank you for starting the blog on the LPM website. I have met the most amazing women through my blog. I only signed up a couple of years ago so I could comment on that particular blog. I never intended to keep it up. I love it!
Who knew a couple of years later that I would have wonderful friends all over the country and beyond.
Today I posted a really neat story about a friend I met on the LPM blog after I had gone to the Siesta Fiesta. She wrote a comment to me after she saw that I had gone.
Turns out she only lives 10 min. away from me. She's a pastor's wife and I knew her daughter-in-law years ago.
She invited my mom and me to a tea and piano concert at their church last night. We were so blessed. She and I are coming to Houston together in Jan.
I know you played a huge part in getting that blog started and still keep up with most, if not all of it, and I wanted to thank you.
God bless you!
Valerie

Confession - the EXACT same thing happened to me two days ago. I'd forgotten that my bioloage conditioner was already expensed of its last diluted drop, and had already started taking my shower. Nate was gone, so he couldn't help. Except I was so desperate (no baby shampoo in my shower!) I got OUT of the shower, soaking wet, tip-toed to the other side of the house, and grabbed my man's very manly smelling shampoo and conditioner. NICE. I smelled like a man when I got done. I'm pretty sure smelling like a sweet 1 year old would've been better :)

Your shampoo post made me giggle. I was reminded of the wonderfully sweet smell of Biolage--maybe that's why it's so expensive! :o) I have always hated Panteen as it makes my hair way oilier (is that a word?!) than it already is...I'm one of those wash-my-hair-everyday girls (or I look like I slept on a grease bucket pillow).

All the talk about shampoo brought back HILARIOUS memories of using HORSE SHAMPOO in high school to make my locks be more luscious. What the heck was I thinking?! Oh my!

Baby bangs...hmm...my daughter is two and I still have them; at least that's what I choose to believe. :o)

Last month I kept forgetting to buy shampoo for a week and had to use the baby shampoo. It SO does not work on grownups. Still dirty with a nice gummy residue makes for some high fashion.

Hi Amanda,

I'm a total lurker and almost never comment on your blog (shame on me) but I read it all the time.

I share your love of Biolage shampoo smell. And girl, guess what? Biolage makes a lotion and it smells just like the shampoo!! The only place I've found it is Armstrong McCall and an occassional Sally's. But if you go to the Biolage website, they have it. It rocks!

I love your blog and your ministry. Thanks so much for sharing it with all of us.

I have used Biolage too, but it got too expensive, now it's Garnier Fructis. I loved the smell of the original Herbal Essences, then they got themselves some marketers, and changed their one scent to multiple scents and changed their formula. It was disappointing...My man and I went to see The Blindside this past weekend too:) I think it made him tear up, he looks tough, but he's a teddy bear:) It makes you think, how to truly reach out to people, all kinds of people. What caught my interest was the previews of them praying at the dinner table...quite a story.

Blessings,

Funny. MY baby bangs are coming in curly again this time. It's a weird thing, but after every baby my hair has changed from curly to straight to curly to straight. It alternates! As I had my 4th babe almost exactly 14 months ago, I am just now REALLY noticing all the crazy spriggy stuff coming in up front. And, yep, definitely curly this time. !!!

(Congrats on getting to go out with your hubby for a movie!)
