What is wrong with this picture?

Congratulations, Cho. You've managed to point a gun in the face of every single American. Job well done to all the news outlets who helped him accomplish such a feat. Really, good for you!

Am I the only one thinking that Virginia Tech should call it a day on this semester? The administration owes it to the staff and students. Can you even imagine having to return to the classroom a week after a massacre on your own campus? When Bonfire fell in November of 1999, campus was quiet and sullen for the rest of the semester. We were all traumatized. And again, that was an accident that killed 12 of our classmates rather than an act of hated and violence that took 33 lives. How can these students and professors be expected to perform? Let them go home. Pass them all and graduate the seniors. Have mercy. They all deserve it.

Dennis Rainey's daughter, Laura, has issued a call to prayer for the Virginia Tech community tonight. If you haven't heard about it yet, click here.

(A little side note: Dennis Rainey has a GREAT radio program called Family Life Today. If you listen to it you will be blessed!)

Thank you Sista! I'm sorry for the bad memory you had...I truly wish it'd never happened. I was there in the day when the Tradition had no thought of such ever happening. Boy was it tall!

Do you remember the cheesy Christmas tree? I always told Chris that it lacked limbs, but he defended it, like a good Aggie.

Praying with you... You are a blessing!
Love in Jesus,
Holly

I say mark this semester down as a loss...let the students and faculty go home and heal, and begin again in the Fall...this is more than a tragedy...I cannot find a word to describe it...and the fallout continues...our entire community was terrified today by a copycat maniac...they still have not caught him, and schools will remain closed until they do:-(

Amen, sista!

I agree---let them go home and try to deal with this. However, on the other hand, it's so sad for the Seniors that should be experiencing the most exciting last few weeks before graduation. He has robbed them of that.

Actually, it's sad for all of them. College years should be some of the best years of your life, not ones where a tragedy like this occurs and leaves you feeling unsafe and fearful.

It's just a horrible, horrible thing. And then the coward takes his own life---it makes me very angry!

I have two kids who go to Michigan State University and all I can say is that I TOTALLY agree with YOU! I would want my kids to just come home! I couldn't wait to call them and tell them how much I love them... and to remind them to pray for these families!
I don't know how much more of this I can take. As it is, I had to just turn off my t.v.! Thanks for sharing Dennis Rainey's website. I hadn't seen it before! What an amazing daughter he has!

this mess!

I completely agree. Classes should be cancelled.

And, yes, I'm so disgusted that the news continues to show his image pointing that gun. I think there has been enough glory given to him.

I haven't been through this kind of thing in person. I guess no one has before--this is the first of its kind. I do understand the feeling of shell shock. After Katrina came through our area-we were numb and hurting at the same time.I thought that I had gone to sleep and woken in another world. Things would never be the same. And some things are not. But, as time has passed God is healing our minds and hearts.
Our schools of course were shut down. Many were gone. And there is not much you can do without water or electricity. I thank God for those two + months off. It gave our children time to be with us. To realize that at least we still had each other.
The students need time to heal. And they need God. I'm praying.

Couldn't agree more with all your thoughts. They need to let those kids go home. I can't even imagine how traumatized they are by what has happened.

And nothing makes me angrier than when the media gives these people their 15 minutes of fame or whatever. Get the focus off of them and do something for the victims.

I will not watch him. I will not. I still haven't heard his voice. Don't want to.

And yep - I think the semester is a done deal at this point. Bless their hearts - they just need to be able to GO HOME if they want.

Oh, it's sad, isn't it? So, so sad.

As we all already know, our media is messed up on so many levels. I just do not understand what the point of showing his pictures & video is. I have tried to get it, and I don't. Let's focus our attention on the memory of those lost, and their poor families who are left behind to pick up his mess. And, of course, as Christians the ONLY hope that we have in this cruel world - Jesus.

Thanks for the link and the info on Dennis Rainey. I hadn't heard of him before.

Love, Michelle

I've had the same thoughts. How can students and professors expect to "get back on track" for the remaining weeks left in the 2006-07 year?!? It's crazy.

As for the comments about the media, I used to work for NBC News, so I have a few thoughts of my own. I think I'll make a post out of it.

Let's just say, for now, that I'm with BooMama -- I haven't watched him yet. Nor do I intend to.

Oh I totally agree...I have a friend that works at VA Tech and she says it is just horrific watching these poor kids trying to cope..

Thankfully the students have been given the option to take their grades based on their work prior to Monday. (collegiatetimes.com) God is so good. Today, you may have heard, is Hokie Hope day and everyone is wearing orange and maroon. My little guy (10 months) wore his VT shirt to the grocery store this morning...I couldn't help the tears that sprung to my eyes when I saw how many people were participating. (see hokiesports.com for pictures from all over the country)

On another note, I love your blog title. I totally have baby bangs! My hair dresser guessed how old my baby was at six months by the length of my baby bangs!

Your blog is so good! I don't even know how you have the time! One really talented fam!

I can't even believe that they are letting all of the people go back to school so soon. I know they have to get back but so soon?!?!?

I don't know about all the finances involved with paying salaries and all, but if I had a kid there, I would bring them home.

Hi Amanda. I stumbled across your blog the other day (you know, following link after link after link and BAM! here I am!), and am thankful you directed me to Laura Rainey's challenge. How awesome! I got chills reading it; it was so encouraging. God really makes amazing happens when horrific things like this happen. God is good ALL the time!

(And yes... why they are completing the semester so close to the end is beyone me! Sheesh!)
