An Ode to the Third Month

I loved Jackson's third month. It was an oasis after two months of being more tired than I ever dreamed and having my life change dramatically. Annabeth is now in her third month and I'm finding it just as dreamy. Here's why:

1) So many smiles!

2) She's getting close to doubling her birth weight and she is oh so snuggly.

3) With eight hours of sleep and my hormones evening out, I feel like myself again.

4) I've gotten used to her patterns and I generally know how to soothe her when she fusses.

5) One little round tummy, two squishy cheeks, and the disappearance of newborn chicken legs.

6) She squeaked out a tiny laugh on Monday night. I had her propped up on my legs and we were playing our first game of peekaboo. A few minutes later, I told her I was shielding her from seeing her father cut his toenails in order to protect her innocence. That's when she did her second little laugh.

Oh, third month, how I love you!

Oh, it sounds like so much fun. I have two more weeks to go before our third month starts. I'm enjoying a lot of those same cute little baby blessings. :)

When my children were at home, I used to say that the wonderfulness of the third month kept you going until the kid was 25. It is amazing. Enjoy!

Our first is now five months old. No one decided to warn me about "the hormones" until I was two weeks from delivery weeping at all kind of random times. It was glorious. And then her time clock switched to asleep at day and awake at night. A friend brought us dinner one night and told us our little bundle of joy was "hazing" us - and would until about 3 months old. And then it was like a light switch. Three months was a new day. It was wonderful before, but wonderful because even more at three months. :)

Number six made me laugh out loud, too. So funny! Also, WOO HOO for starting to feel like yourself again. (As if I know what post-partumm feels like anyway! Just imagining it's not the best feeling in the world!) Have a great night!

Good for you! No telling what visions of discarded toenails might do to her psyche.

Really.

We are in our 3rd month as well with my daughter, Blakely. Has your daughter started rolling over yet? Mine seems to be content with staying in one place.

It just gets better and better!

I'm with you on the toenail and other indelicate manly behaviors. You're a good mom, Amanda!

just a question- do you nurse on a schedule or on demand? any tips? sounds like you are doing wonderful if your baby has doubled in weight at 3 mos! i nursed my daughter but feel like i did a lot of things wrong. i was so "by the clock" to a fault, i think.
thanks! i love your blog!

What are these new born chicken legs you're talking about? LOL! My girls were both born chubby. Their fat rolls had fat rolls. :)

There just isn't anything better or more contagious than a baby's laughter! I can't believe Annabeth is already 3 months old!

I looked at my 5th child tonight...he is about to be 7 and I told him to just stop growing so fast! I love all the stages so very much...they all bring their challenges and their joys but it just goes by so fast. Although there are some says that feel like years :)

Bev Brandon @ The Fray said...

My teen just dropped his lengthy cut nails on my dining room table for observation and I gasped---what is it about boys? So glad you're feeling back again to normal...that's so very good. Yeah God!

I have a scary procedure in the a.m. and would so appreciate your prayers! Will be alone for this one. So need prayer!

You are SUCH a sweet Mommy...your babies are BLESSED!!!!

I have a 3 month old as well and I agree it is the best stage yet! :) Enjoy your precious Annabeth!

I am going to enjoy every moment up to then, but thanks for the encouragement of the light at the end of the tunnel! (So tired!!!) Annabeth is a cutie pie in her dress up pictures; I'm waiting for Neil's umbilical stump to come off and then let him try out his outfits! So much fun! :)

Kelly @ Love Well said...

So true.

Three months marks the end of newborn and the beginning of baby.

Ronda said...

I am at the end of my twins' second month, and I so agree!!!! It is a wonderful reprieve after the first two months, which are also wonderful but very tiring! So glad you are enjoying your baby girl!

Amanda said...

I agree. The third month is when Camden stopped crying, and I started sleeping. I could actually go out in public and not end up in another room nursing a crying baby for the majority of the time... where I would cry too because I was so desperate for social interaction. With this baby I don't fear labor... I fear the first two months with a newborn. Congrats for surviving what seems like the LONGEST two months ever! :-)

Bobbie said...

Love those first smiles...it's means those deep tummy laughs aren't far away. There's nothing more contagious! I love being in public and hear a baby/child laughing from the bottom of their heart, it makes me smile from the bottom of this Grandma Bobbie's heart! The curled up toes and dimpled elbows are another fav!

P.S.
Amanda, I think you might need to change your profile picture, girl. You have a new member in the family now :)
