It's somewhat of a miracle that I even have enough strength to type right now. Having a laptop helps. I just got back from the first of 10 personal training sessions that are going to whip my sorry rump into shape for the next two months. I have a wedding to be in this February and if I'm still committed to bringing pale and s*xy back, then I need to at least get rid of the mush. I'll admit that yesterday I toyed around with the idea of tanning. But I need to hold strong! Out of principle that pale is beautiful enough, I also refuse to get a spray-on tan.
Like last year when I was preparing for our Mexico trip, I'm going on a fast food fast (except a weekly trip to Chick-fil-a) and replacing one meal a day with a Lean Cuisine. There are those times when driving through is the only option, but I can just get a kids meal and that will help. We'll see what happens. Hopefully what will happen is my hubby will see me walk down the aisle in a pretty dress and he'll want to take me on another honeymoon as soon as possible. Hawaii has been calling my name for a while now.
At the end of my punching, kicking, stepping, ab-punishing session, I truly thought I was going to pass out and suffer some major public humiliation. I'm not sure if it's worse to publicly vomit or pass out. Hopefully I will never be able to tell you. I stumbled out to the car, picked up my cell phone with trembling arms, and left a message on the bride's voicemail. I wanted her to know the lengths and the depths I was going to in order to look good in her wedding. I told her that I might pass out while driving home, and if I did so and died, she should know that I loved her. Truly loved her.

Vomitting in public is definitely much worse than passing out ---the problem is that I don't think you get a choice.
You are truly a good friend. I hope you really do bring pale and s*xy back. There are alot of us pale girls who need to see that happen.
I think the vomiting is worse. If you pass out you get sympathy but if you puke people run for the hills. Unless your pregnant then they run while making sympathetic noises. = )
I'm impressed at the lengths your willing to go to for a friend. Wow!
"Bringing back pale" is too funny. I do this but not by choice I just really don't tan. My hubby's friend jokes with me that I am so "clean" because I am so white. I just remind him that when we are 70 I will look 60 and he (being sure to have a tan) will look 90.
So you go girl!
-Smiles!
That is funny! My brother got married in December and was marrying a sweet girl of 5'8" and 105 pounds. My other sister in law? Thin. So, being the big girl I am, I refused to be the fat sister in photos! It was hard work, but worth it! Now I have to get back on track after the holidays and rid me of this gift of flab! Good luck! And passing out would be better. Nothing to clean up.
I just stumbled upon your blog today. I'm thinking of starting one and my girlfriend sent me a couple of links to blogs that she likes. Anyhow, I have to tell you that I started looking at some of your archived posts and I came across the one about decorating for Christmas and your sequin stockings. There's three of us kids and my mom made a stocking for each of us...she's also since then made one for each of our spouses and grandbabies. We just got back from her house, and I couldn't get over the sparkle!! I love them. As far as making them though, they're a pain!! I have two little ones and I've pulled several all-nighters in November out of guilt to get them done in time for Christmas!!
Shauna
that is hilarious!! Let me say that I worked at a gym for one day and the one day that I worked there this girl walked out of the aerobics room, puked, and walked back in. She wasn't even going to bother. Yours truly cleaned it up! =)
Stay strong girlfriend!!
I always pray that I won't vomit or pass out after my workouts. I feel like either one could be an option. Or maybe a heart attack.
Oh, but it will be so worth it, right?
Good for you! I have no such incentive, but really want to get my rear (and the rest of me) in shape again. Keep it up...it really does work although we like to convince ourselves otherwise when the drive-thru or chocolate starts calling our name.
Oh girl! I know your pain!! My cousin is getting married in March, and although I'm not officially in the wedding...I will be taking photos and want to look a tad better (ok, alot better). I'm giving up ....SODA...(gasp)! I started the treadmill running Tuesday...we'll see if I survive! Good luck! I'll pray for you...you can pray for me..lol!
I need to get back on the treadmill too. Too many Christmas munchies and goodies sitting in places they shouldn't be sitting on my bod!
I am with you friend. been waking up at 5am to get in a good Word before I go running at 6am.....it is kicking my rear - but that is a good thing!!!!!! hang in there, but don't hang on to the old ways.........i have trouble with that last part!!!
love, Leigh
Great post! Although I read it right before lunch and it took every ounce of self control I had not visit the drive thru at Chick-fil-a. It's seriously a weakness of mine. I used to be good and get the kids meal (only around 440 calories for the 6pack and fries) but I was REALLY craving the Chick-fil-a sandwich instead. Fortunately the Lord gave me strength and I ate the "healthy" food I brought! I'm going to make a date with myself to eat there next Friday though. You'll be in my thoughts!
Sister soldier, you stay strong on the pale. It IS s*xy. You'll thank yourself when you're 70.
The sacrifices we make. I think fainting would be better than vomiting. I laugh because about 3 years ago I went to a personal trainer, and sometimes I almost cried. It's hard to keep your dignity.
My family still taunts me about the time that I stupidly believed that I could work out with my mom and her trainer and keep up with no problem. I was twenty one and figured young would just beat old. So, so, so wrong! The workout went okay but the next morning I literally could not get out of bed on my own. I had to call someone for help because nothing below my waist would move no matter what I did. My dear and very attractive male neighbor came and helped me up and to the bathroom door (good Christian guy - he didn't even tease me). I thought the shower made everything okay so I hobbled out the door. TO WORKOUT AGAIN. Dumb runs deep in me and pride too. I kept praying that nobody would notice that I couldn't bend my legs. Well, my pride took a fall - down the two flights of stairs as my family watched with the cute neighbor who decided to join out workout. I wasn't hurt except for some bruising on the inside and outside. My mother is still proud that her workout caused that much agony and of course, she felt fine. My pride came before the fall that is for sure!
I would have to say tht puking would be much worse, people would be grossed out, on the other hand if you passed out they would just feel bad for you when you woke up:)You're a comitted soul!! I have never really worked out since high school...I know so unhealthy! Hope you get your trip to Hawaii;D
Okay, publicly vomiting is MUCH worse than passing out. At least if you pass out, strangers are concerned about you. If you vomit, they just think you're gross.
You are inspirational! Way to go with the getting in shape! And yes, pale can be beautiful. If you have the right lipstick. :)
Girl, I'm feelin' ya. I started First Place with the girls at our church. It's been too stinkin' cold to run so I'm inside with my own barbells squatting like a mad woman.
Speaking of First Place, I find all the hard work in keeping up with all the food exchanges actually helps keep my mind on the paper instead of on the food. Crazy isn't it?
Good luck on your goals. You did it before, you can do it again! ;)
Lisa
You are definitely inspiring! And girl, I've seen your pics and you look MAHVELOUS! But Kudos on the workout. I'm thinking about it. :)
I am right there with you girl! I love your idea of replacing one meal a day with a Lean Cuisine!
This post cracked me up. I appreciate the "trembling arms" comment. I work out once a week with a trainer, and I swear, every time I end up weaving my way to my car on wobbly legs and driving home hanging onto the steering wheel for dear life since my arms are shaking so badly. Since my trainer and I have now become pretty good friends she doesn't even try to restrain her laughter anymore. I'd love to reach out and smack her, but staying conscious is my first priority! Keep up the good work. You will be looking EVEN MORE like a FINE SPECIMEN (my college friend's favorite term) soon!
Oh I hope Curt does think you look you good enough to take Hawaii! You need to go! (and so do I now that I think about it!)
You dear Amanda are one good friend. :)
And I can tell you from vomitting in public experience, it's the worst thing that can ever happen. THE WORST. I'm getting butterflies in my stomach just thinking about it again.
Have a great weekend!
steph.
Well, I was totally planning on getting on the workout plan because, you know, swimsuit season will be here before we know it.
But then I got the flu.
On the plus side, I have no appetite so it's been a good kick start to my New Year's resolution.
Vomiting in public has to be the worst. Not that it's happened to me.
you crack me up!! I think it's awesome how motivated you are!! You go girl :)
I honor of your hard work today, I looked up the Get in Shape Girl commercial on youtube for you. Do you remember the song as well as I do?

Hi Amanda,
Wow ! You got it going on. I can't remember if we are talking about hair or workouts, so I'll just comment on both(it's may age you know)
about hair color,I have been every shade of brown and blonde. Being over blonde is not a good look as we age gracefully. I visited my favorite stylist Linley @ Christmas. She is as adorable as her name. She made the notation on my hair "Been doing your own color I see ." "Yep" I replied.
I asked for something darker blonde ,but not a dark brown. I asked her to add some great hi-lights and I was on my way to the best color my head has sported for sometime. I know this b/c my mentor a 50something can't stop with the compliments. My hair has a beuatiful healthy look. I have truly found my 40something color. I love it.
Now about the workout, spin, run, situp, and do it all til you puke. It's worth the pain to look fantastic in that dress for the Feb. wedding. BTW do you have27 dresses in the closet? JK.
Is the bride Melissa? She has really great dark color.
Have a great day in the salon
and the gym.
Love to you,
D.
I love that you are bringing pale back!! :) I am all for it! I absolutely DO NOT tan, and none of the fake tan alternatives I've tried has worked for me. My skin just doesn't "do" that color. The best thing for me was spending most of my 20s in Asia where pale really IS in! They actually have a saying along the lines of "Fair skin makes up for three ugly features." (Some things don't translate well, but you get the idea! :)) So yeah ... I miss Asia. ;) Anyhow, I've been reading the LPM blog for a while and just today discovered you have your own. I am loving it! :)
i'm not sure which would be worse either, but i will say...on my last band trip in high school we went to NYC for a festival competition and the last day they gave us some free time for shopping. which would have been great, but right about the time i stepped off the bus my stomach alerted me to the fact that i had food poisoning from the chicken dinner the night before. so there i was...in front of 120 of my band-mates, in the middle of NYC, on the sidewalk right in front of MACYS....throwing up my guts in a trash can. my friend katie walked over and said, "dang abby, even the homeless guy over there is looking at you weird"
...needless to say...not my favorite school field trip.
(and i have to admit the pastiness made me think about tanning too...and the random "2 weeks free tanning" coupon that came in the mail didn't help...but i held strong and threw it away.
you rock...glad you are keeping some Chick-fil-a...don't think i cold quit that place cold turkey (errr...chicken.)
So THAT'S the wedding you're talking about!!! Just saw the big announcement on the LPM blog! We should've guessed it by the lengths and depths you're going through to be a part!
Congrats to all!
Kelli in Ohio
So it's your sister's wedding that you are going to be in, huh? You sneaky thing...
They are a gorgeous couple!
A personal trainer??
Dog-gone-it! I was hoping you could bring slightly mushy back, too!
Keep up the good work! :) I'm working on things myself, just not with a wedding in sight...but perhaps working on a better shape could lead to one...can't hurt to try, eh? :)
~Deborah :)
