Today's Toddler Moments

Brought to you by Tachi and Pregnant Girl

7:50 a.m.: First thing this morning, Jackson finds a box of "Fruit by the Foot" in his daddy's open suitcase in our bedroom. Hubs has been packing for his India trip. Jackson desperately wants us to give him these "strawberries" (?) as soon as possible. Right now, please. He runs to his high chair and puts the box on the tray.

8:00 a.m.: Not wanting to rob Curtis of even one of his precious India-snacks, I don't give in to Tachi's demands. He goes on the potty and I decide to give him one of my strawberry flavored Sour Punch Bites as a reward. Jackson, who hasn't had breakfast yet, asks for more strawberry candies...on a plate please.

9:00 a.m.: Tachi poops in his new underwear for the third time in two days. It doesn't phase him one bit. P.G. gags but doesn't surrender this morning's toast. She's got skills.

11:45 a.m.: Curtis brings home Chick-fil-a for lunch which, oddly enough, I don't enjoy that much when I'm expecting. Hubs and Tachi eat Chick-fil-a quite a bit when I'm not around. Curtis gives Jackson his chicken nuggets whole and I realize he NEVER cuts them up. This goes against everything I believe in as a parent. Tachi doesn't choke. Tachi's got skills too. Not that I trust them.

1:20 p.m.: Jackson goes down for a nap and Curt leaves for the airport. There are no tears.

3:00 p.m.: Tachi wakes up 30 minutes early from his nap and I miss getting my bath. Blast!

4:00 p.m.: Tachi does not understand that it's mommy's turn for a bath. He is very unhappy about it. He just had a bath before his nap, but there's no reasoning with him. Then he puts some of his Cheerios down on the bath mat and he has a complete and utter meltdown when I tell him not to eat them. (Note to self - wash the bath mats.) When I explain that the mat is dirty because Daddy's feet are on it all the time, he cries for his Daddy. Daddy has only been gone for three hours. (Another note to self - try not to talk about Daddy.)

Tonight: We're going to Bibby's house to mooch some dinner, give me a reason to get out of my sweats, and give Tachi a change of scenery.

Tomorrow: Bonny, one of my college roomies, is coming to stay with me with her two boys. Yeah!

Hey girl...

Wow, this was a throw back for me big time when my little boy (now 13) was a Toddler and Daddy was traveling alot.

I understand statements like "mooch some dinner and give me a reason to get out of my sweats" and "it's Mommy's bathtime."

I'll be thinking of you while C is out of town! Hard work for Momma, indeed!!

On a side note, my SIL sent me a recipe for "homemade fruit roll-ups" that she says are AWESOME and without all the HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) which apparently is not that good for you. Who knew? :) If you ever decide you want the recipe, let me know! She says her kids can't get enough.

Rest up, girlfriend...Baby #2 is on her way and will more than likely rock your world!!! :)

Blessings,
Dori

Funny, I had the same "reaction" to Chik Fil A while pregnant. And I never really got sick in general, just some queasiness here and there but CFA just didn't seem to taste as good.
Blessings on you while your husband is traveling! I know what that's like. Glad you have a friend coming, that will help a lot!

So that was a hilarious post! I am way impressed with the "skills" you and Tachi possess, am laughing about the nuggets (I am a cut-food-up-to tiny-pieces person-my hubby is not!), and will be praying for you while your husband is gone!

Hang in there P.G. Kudos for not "surrendering the toast"...love that!

Ay, Amanda! Toddlers are exhausting, especially when pregnant!! We have a 2.5 and a 1.5 yr old girls, both seem to be testing their limits with everything, at the same time! I am in the midst of first trimester ickiness, so the dirty diapers of the 1.5yr old are enough to send me over the edge! Luckily the older is potty trained, most of the time. I do remember the poopy underwear though, not fondly. Hang in there, sister. Sometimes they make us laugh in between...it's their redeeming abilities. Grace and peace, friend.

I have a friend who had the ultimate cure for her toddler (who kept "pooping" in his pants): She told him that she was going to cut a hole in his underwear and that when he "pooped in his pants" it would just fall out onto the floor for everyone to see!" Bingo! No more "pooie pants"! :0

Bless you, Amanda... bless you! We'll be praying for Curtis - and for you and Tachi at home.

I have had a non love for chick fil a this whole time too. It's so weird because normally I could eat it every day.
Hope you make it okay without Curtis! I'm glad you have a friend coming!

I remember (like it was yesterday because it almost was) looking at the poop in the underwear and trying to decide whether to throw them away or clean them out. After the first 10 or poops - I decided that little boys underwear is quite disposable. Much to my mother's dismay (we wore cloth diapers) it was worth the $4 of buying new ones not to have to clean them anymore.......

Praying for you and sweet Mister while daddy is gone. I can't wait to hear about India....and, I can't wait to hear how y'all do while he's there. ;)

Hugs,
Fran

Oh man. That day was on the rough side. Hope you make it without your man! I bet you will be so glad when he gets back!

Hooray for old friends coming to visit! I hope her boys are Tachi's age! :)

Just be thankful little "Tachi" is still taking naps. I am lucky if I can squeeze one nap out of Gage. Not fun, I repeat, not fun. Two year olds were meant to nap!

Oh the joys of toddlerhood
and being pregnant at the same time - double whammy :)
So how long is the hubs going to be in India?
I will be praying for you
At least you are by the family - there is nothin like heading over to ask the parents for help :)
Blessings

I totally relate to all of the toddler moments; I'm sure I've had my own versions of all of them at one time or another...and I am so, so sorry that your hubby is gone, and you're on your own...That's hard, espescially pregnant. I will be praying for you! But it's so great that your friend is coming! :-)

Have a wonderful time with your Bonny and her boys! Praying for Curtis and for you, P.G.

Funny thing: I was just talking with our friends from A&M and Peru missionaries-about-to-be-Canadian church planters about "God of this City." John is preaching in Calgary on Sunday about praying for peace in their city and the word "shalom." I asked him about this song and he said he's going to incorporate it. So if you think about our Aggie friends on Sunday, please pray for them. Their journey ahead to plant a church in the remote areas of Alberta is a God-sized task.

Love! And prayers,
Holly

Amanda,
Not sure if are interested in seeing these pics or maybe you have already.
Fw: Different HURRICANE IKE Pics...WOW!
Not sure if you can get to these but if you type it into your search engine manually maybe you can. Just amazing pics!
Have a fun time with a full house while Curtis is gone, good to have the company I'm sure.

Wow!....what a day Miss Amanda. I must say that I can totally understand the poopy incident though...try dealing with that in a classroom of 8 other 3-5 year olds who are non-verbal and autistic! My little token girl (the only one in my class) poopied her panties yesterday and we had to give the little princess a bath at school!!! YEah for us!!!
As I said to myself yesterday while washing poopy off of her little bum..."this too shall pass". Potty training is going to happen, for I am determined!!!!
Praying for you and Tachi while Daddy is gone...

Tobey would eat fruit rollups for breakfast everyday or any other candy for that matter. Pass that recipe for homemade fruit roll ups on over to me please. Isn't it fun trying to reason with a toddler? I wish I could record some of the conversations we have. I'll be praying for ya'll this week.

You've definitely got some skills, P.G.!

Oh I hope you have soo much fun with your friend and her kids. Some of my sweetest memories are when my daddy was out of town and momma would have friends come and stay with us. Cute post.

Just wait until he's old enough to get the frozen blueberries out of the freezer and feed them to himself and his not quite 1 year old sister. Imagine the mess. Not that I know from personal experience or anything . . . . .

As someone who is totally in the trenches of toddler hood as well... I feel your pain.

One thing we do is have an acceptable place to cry and throw a fit. It's going to happen because they can't control their emotions yet. So, I figure, give him an acceptable and safe place to do it. For us, it's on his bed. If he starts to "lose it", I just tell him to go sit on his bed and calm down. It's such a ritual now, that anymore, he just trots on down the hall, bawling his fool head off the entire way.

But oh those sweet moments are SO sweet, aren't they?

BTW - your dh is headed to my parents' neck of the woods.

I know how hard it is when they travel & you're home with the kiddos. It's hard. Praying for you guys.

Good luck Amanda! It is always hard when the husband is away, plus being prego on top of that...more stress! However you know your family will be blessed for following God's will! As far as the potty training, well, I can only offer that it will be easier with your baby girl!

Hey, Amanda. I'm 7 weeks along and FEELING your pain, girl. Except that my husband's not out of town, at least not TODAY.

I would keep my sweats on for Bibby's house. But that's just me. My dad sent me a "ipstick Wearers for Palin" shirt and it occurred to me I would have to start wearing lipstick again to wear the shirt... bummer.

Just a quick note to say that God put you on my mind this morning EARLY! I've been praying for you, Jackson and Curtis this morning...

Hope you have a wonderful weekend

I, too, am in the midst of potty training trials. Fortunately, I have not had to go through that while pregnant. I am dealing what is bound to be the most stubborn child on the planet. At nearly 3, (as in, will be 3 on Monday) we are still battling wills on when we will "ooze" the potty. It's usally after she has already tee-tee'd in her panties.

With a preschooler, a potty-training toddler and a 9-month old, everyone wearing diapers is fine with me!

I have 3 boys and I have been in your shoes many times over. The joys of boys. So nice that you can spend time with your parents and your friends while your husband is gone. It helps to pass the time :)

Hang in there :)

Talk about hurling while I was pregnant. Trying to wash out yukkie undies sent me over the edge. I bought 311 pairs and threw away the nasties. I know that's not 'green', but whatever.

Hang in there girlfriend!

Lisa said...

Wow, does your life sound exactly like mine! If I've learned anything in the whole 3 and a half years I've been a mom, it's that all reason goes out the window once the first one is born. But aren't they just worth it? They are certainly my sweet little gifts from God.

Thanks for making me laugh and realize again that I am not the only one who can't reason with a toddler/preschooler!

God Bless you guys!
Lisa

Hi Amanda, I just found your blog this week from Becoming Me. I've had so much fun reading through your blog and getting to "know" you. You have such a fun, funny way of writing and are very enjoyable to read. Your little guy is just the cutest thing!

Hope you do well while your husband is gone. I'll pray for his safe return. It's always good to have friends over and help the time go by. I hate it when my husband is out of town and remember when he had to go out of state just two short months after our son was born and our daughter was almost three. Talk about panic! We did fine but I was sooo happy to have him back safe and sound.

I have to say, you've got a new reader now!

You just make me laugh! That so sounds like any one of our typical days. You are handeling it all well, and when #2 comes, the fun will be multiplied!

Funny, funny! I wanted to introduce myself. I'm Michele and I'm in pretty much the same stage of life as you. I have a 19 mo. old and another due in Feb. We're missionaries in Brazil and I also get times without my hubby, which is never fun at all! May God give you peace and strength while he is gone. Glad I found your blog!

Precious diary of your day. Oh, how I do not miss those potty training days... Though we are in the wisdom teeth cutting phase. My daughter's dentist told her she should be able to cut them fine and then have them out and save the surgery.

Bless her heart at least we have skipped the messy part of cutting teeth this go round!

You do have some skills, I would have gagged and regurgitated!

Blessings and I'll be praying for Curt and your precious family while he is away.

God's peace, speed and favor be with you all!
