The Mister is Three!

Oh my goodness, my little boy is three years old today! I have mixed feelings saying goodbye to age two. In many ways it was a magical year. Jackson learned so much and it was incredible seeing his speech develop. On the other hand...wow...potty training and discipline have not been easy. I have asked God that age three would be easier when it comes to discipline. It doesn't hurt to ask, right? I'm looking forward to seeing what changes and growth this year will bring.

We celebrated the birthday boy with a small family party at my parents' house last night. I asked my dad to do a fish fry for us and he graciously obliged. His friend even happened to go fishing and drop a bunch of fresh fish off at the house the day before. The Lord provides! Besides the fish, we had homemade tartar sauce, corn on the cob, hush puppies, steak fries, and macaroni and cheese. It was a feast.

My parents have no idea how much they blessed us by hosting Jackson's birthday party and providing such a great meal. I toyed around with doing a friend party, but I was praising God yesterday at about 5 p.m. that I didn't do it. I was about to drop with exhaustion and had a bit of a sore throat. It was so nice just to show up and not really be a hostess. Next year we'll be back on, but this year being low-key was exactly what we all needed. Jackson had a blast being the center of attention, opening presents, eating cake, and even devouring his dinner! Thanks Mom and Dad!

This is the bubble sword Jackson got for Valentine's Day.

A couple from our Sunday school class brought us dinner on Saturday night. Look at this cake my friend Susan made us! She's every woman!

At his party, Jackson tore through his presents at record speed.

Our first decent pic as a family of 4. Our only other one is on my hospital bed and trust me, it isn't cute.

Jackson LOVES his new race car helmet and steering wheel. It speaks to him and tells him where to go.

He did laps around the house with that thing for about 30 minutes. It was hilarious.

Thank you, Mother, for embracing your Thomas the Train hat.

Dad was embracing his hazmat suit.

My girl is two weeks old today.

My Pappaw holding Annabeth.

Memaw with her first great-granddaughter.

This is an ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins. I remember having a Smurf and a Rainbow Brite cake from there when I was little and I thought it would be fun to get one for Jackson. It was so good! It was vanilla cake with cookies and cream ice cream. Missy is coming over today to meet Annabeth and we are eating the leftovers. I'm trying to have self-control until then.

The Thomas plates really enhance my mom's table, don't they?

Getting serenaded.

Blowing out the candle.

I think he liked his cake.

Jackson right before he left for school this morning. When I saw what Curtis dressed him in this morning (a gray t-shirt), I said, "Babe, it's his birthday! He needs a better outfit!" I'm not sure men understand that concept. Then he changed him into this handsome shirt that was a gift from Nana. Thank you, Nana! I sent cupcakes from HEB for him to share with his classmates. If his teachers never speak to me again, I'll understand. All they had was frosting in Mardi Gras colors - purple, green, and yellow. Oops!

Looks like the birthday boy had a great time. I love the family of four picture! When my daughter started preschool this year her teacher asked for a family picture. My son had been born in May, and I didn't have any pics of the 4 of us except the obligatory one in the hospital with me in a nightgown. I had to send in a picture of the 3 of us with his little head taped in. Her teacher thought it was hysterical! I made it a priority to take a pic of the 4 of us very soon to replace that one up on her classroom wall.

I just loved Jackson's party! I have to say in the picture where you and Jackson are wearing the blue hats, Jackson looks just like you. He mostly looks like his daddy but that picture he's the spitting image of his momma.

Seriously. The pic of Pappaw and Annabeth? Be still my heart. You will treasure that one. He definitely loves that little girl!
And I can safely say that The Mister was pretty happy at being the center of attention. His face in the pics has PURE JOY all over it!
Congrats on making it through the Two's. Hang on to your shoes for the Three's. Whoa.

Three years old....

We did it back in July...ours was a low-key party, too! Noah's birthday is on 7/5, so he thought the fireworks were for him! Perfect!

Well, speaking as one three year old's mom to another's (yeah, I think I'm showing our age)...in the words of Mr. Chapman: "Saddle up your horses!...this is the Great Adventure!" :)

Erica said...

I'd say he had a mighty fine time! I am going to start rethinking the big birthday party thing. As long as the child feels celebrated, that is all that matters. Way to go!
P.S. Are there any nights free that I can bring dinner over for you?

Bobbie said...

Happy Birthday Big Guy!! It's hard to believe it's been 3 years since your Bibby introduced you to us. It looks like you had a great party, surrounded by those that love you! Have fun with all your new toys...

I'm so glad that y'all are living in Houston now and that your Mom could be so close to help you with Jackson's party! I know she was more than ecstatic to be able to do it for you.

Thanks for sharing! I was hoping to be able to send Jackson a birthday Howdy today. Love the pictures.

Gig'em & God Bless,

I don't know if there is any truth to it. It seemed to be true for my now teenaged children. The pediatrician told me that the worst years were always the evens and the odds were a piece of cake. So the 2,4,6 and so on were heinous and the 3,5,7 were easy. Hope it holds true for Jackson.
Annabeth is a doll! I love the pics of your Mom (whom I have never met but adore) holding her.

Aww, happy birthday to Jackson! Such fun!

My boy turned 2 just 12 days after his sister was born and we had his two friends and their families over (and my in-laws were still here). By the time the party was over I had 102 fever and a post-baby infection. So you did good letting your folks handle the party!

He is absolutely precious. Such a sweet smile. And I hate to tell you but I thought 3 was a harder age than 2.

Awww...Chase's 3rd birthday was the Thomas the Tank! :D And, he is going to turn 18 this year! Guess it would be too much to have his 18th birthday theme as "Thomas the Tank"! :D

Oh my goodness...I never noticed how much you and your mom look alike! Annabeth is getting cutter and cutter by the day! Thank you for your comments. I am definently overwhelmed right now. Breastfeeding is an adventure in and of itself, but I am determined to keep going! I may have some questions in the near future!
I am so sad to hear about Kristi Walker. That breaks my heart. I did not know her, but I knew Chuck. I will keep them in my prayers.
Hope you are enjoying motherhood as much as I am!

Happy Birthday to the Mister!! And hugs to the mom...I still think that birthdays are just as precious to the mom as they are to the child...trust me, my oldest will be 20 next week~still a precious day for me to remember!

A 3 year old! Such a fun age, especially in terms of language development. This is the age when their little brains begin shifting language that has for the most part sat on the right side of the brain over to the left side where it takes on more structure, thus the reason they OVER apply language rules they understand, like when they say "I understanded, Mommy," instead of understood.

I loved trading in the Terrible Two's for the Thunderin' Threes!!

Blessings on your family of four!

Beth said...

What a precious family! You don't look like you just gave birth. I had a c-section and didn't go anywhere the first month I think. I would have done it differently the second time around. My boy is 17. You survived two years old but the older my son got, the more I enjoyed him. We talk about EVERYTHING. Pick your battles. Keep the communication open even if you don't always agree with him. There is nothing like being a mom. God Bless you Amanda!

Oh and I just remembered, I saw your mama in Birmingham the weekend right after Jackson was born and when she put up the picture of him, the crowd went wild. I remember God working out her schedule so she could be with you.

Jackson is Three!!! Every child is different but for me the 3's were the 'terrible' year for us. But, it sounds like Jackson has tested pretty well in the 2's.

Love family birthday parties! Even if they do have a friends one, we do a seperate family one for us. Can't believe you are already in jeans, go girl.

Love the Papaw picture! I am a Papaw's girl myself even to this day at 37 yrs. Such a sweet picture of them.

I just have to tell you that I cried the day that Thomas got packed up and put away in our house 1 1/2 yr ago. Thomas was a staple here for about 8 years with both boys and to have to pack - oh heartbreak with the realization that they are growing up.
