SSMTC 2012

I just want y'all to know that I'm still in my robe - which is standard for a Monday morning - and Annabeth is wearing a light pink leotard with a red and white tutu and hot pink leg warmers. We are kicking off the week in style. Did I tell you that Annabeth once asked me if my robe was my "dress ups"?  She is a hilarious child.

I'm here to give a little recap of this weekend but there's no way to do it justice. My dear friend Janelle came down from Irving and we got to hang out all weekend for the Siesta Scripture Memory Team Celebration that my mom hosted. It was so good to have quality time with her. Melanie and Sophie were also here and we got to stay with them on Friday night. What a blast. The awkward, absurd, and flat out hilarious moments abounded and so did the guacamole. We found the world's best - I kid you not - at Escalante's on Westheimer. I have no words, only pictures.

This is the dinner we all shared. It redeemed some of the meals I shared with Sophie in Melanie in Ecuador. Obviously, healthy eating was put on pause for about 24 hours.

I've never loved Melanie more because she embraced the awkward and took one for Team Moore a couple of times. It just so happens that Melanie and my sister are both very slender, tall, stylish, and beautiful with long brown hair. Out of the corner of my eye I sometimes mistake one for the other. There were a couple of times when people approached her and it was very unclear if they knew they were talking to the ultra fabulous uber-blogger Big Mama or the equally fabulous scholar of ancient biblical languages and sister of mine, @MisFitz77. Bless Mel's heart. She was so, so gracious and tried keep "Melissa" from appearing too aloof. It was the gift that kept giving.

One of my favorite things was that I had lots of people ask about As Our Own and Compassion. As Our Own even had a display in the foyer as part of HFBC's missions expo. That was such cool timing. I'm not much of a blogger these days, but if I can do anything to connect people with how they can help vulnerable children in Jesus's name, I will keep trying. (Lord, help me.)

My mom taught from 2 John and she brought it. Travis and Angela Cottrell and their team led us in worship, which was awesome.

This picture is for my friend Charity in Wales. I missed her very much this weekend. This is Siesta Cindy, who just moved back to the U.S. after being in the U.K. for several years. She was precious.

Lots of Siestas visited our church on Sunday morning and that was a lot of fun. We came very, very close to maxing out the chapel. I think you could have counted the empty chairs on your fingers. Curtis was on fire while he preached and I was just sitting there thinking, "This is my husband." I'm so in awe of Jesus.

Speaking of church, I have been really blessed by a blog by Christine Hoover for church planting wives called Grace Covers Me. We did a little interview for her blog if you want to check it out (here and here).

My family and I had such a wonderful time! God has truly touched every member of y'alls family with a gift and I am thrilled to be able to get to read, watch, listen, and see all of y'alls gifts. Wonderful seeing and meeting you finally! Next time, maybe Corey, you and I can get together.

It was such a fun weekend and also good to get to chat with you for a minute. We enjoyed visiting your church. And man, it was like the lord was speaking straight to me through Curtis. I've been convicted over my prayerlessness for a while now, but now I'm moving into obedience and gonna get my rear, and my prayerlife in gear and move on with God. You don't even understand how much it meant to me to hear from the Lord yesterday. And now, it's all coming full circle with WHY my prayer life needed to be kicked up a notch. Several reasons, but one that is tender on my heart this very moment - I got a text from my dad last night just soon after I walked in the door from my 6 hour trip home. A student in my mom's 2nd grade class had just died in a fire. My mom was losing it and needed some bold prayers. No more wimpy prayers. This was big! The boy was being raised by his grandmother because his mother died when he was just a baby, the grandmother's daughter. This poor grandmother has now lost her daughter, her husband, and now her grandson. Please be in prayer for them. And for my mom and her class as they deal with this. And thank your husband for being obedient and allowing the Holy Spirit to speak through him and do a mighty work in me. And thank your sweet momma for this weekend. I'm changed.

It really was a wonderful weekend. Every bit of it. I SO enjoyed Curtis' message on Sunday. It's been on my heart all morning as well. No more wimpy prayers :) May God bless your church as you seek to be a light in that community.

Hey Amanda! My mom, dad, and I had the privilege of coming to BFC on Sunday after SSMTC, and we have not stopped talking about the sermon. My dad said that it was one of the best sermons he has ever heard. Coming from my dad, who considers all of his words carefully before speaking, that is the ultimate compliment! I agree and plan to take time to meditate on all of the things God said to me through Curtis's message. In fact, I started this morning, by praying (aloud) for faithfulness & more of the Holy Spirit.

Unfortunately, we had to scoot out early to catch our plane back, but I just wanted to tell you what a blessing it was to attend! Wish we could have given you a hug & said thanks in person. Blessings to y'all and the entire Moore clan!

What a great weekend, very focus changing for me. Thank you for sharing your mom with all of us--God through her blesses many.
I love the pic of you and our Siesta Cindy. My friends and I met her in our hotel lobby Friday morning and she joined our group. We spent every waking hour eating, shopping and getting to know her. Super fun!! Its amazing the things God will do if we are open to what He is doing. Now we have a new friend and blessing.
Love and Prayers!!

Oh I hate that I missed this! Looks like an amazing time of worship. Thanks also for the link to Christine's blog. My husband (also a church planter in Houston) has been telling me I should either look for or start a blog for church planter's wives since it is such a unique calling and I often feel alone. I really loved the honesty in your interview can't wait to read more!

It was a pleasure to finally meet you! At SSMT#1 it didn't happen for you and I, so this was a real blessing. I agree, your Mom brought it and then to sit in church to take in from Pastor Curtis, well let's just say that I have a lot of notes to re-read and soak in!! Thank you for helping us on our Galveston trip as well.

What an awesome weekend. SSMTC2012 was so over the top and your Mom really brought the word to us. Thanks to you and all the LPM staff for all their hard work to make it happen. The icing on the cake (weekend) was listening to Curtis' message about the end of the world and prayer. He is funny, witty, serious and so anointed. That message was just for me. I had already begun to pray out loud this past year but I will now be more faithfull and "no wimpy" prayers. I plan to listen again when the podcast is available Love you guys

Amanda,
We didn't get to visit your church and hear Curtis' fabulous message but we certainly heard from a fresh Word from your mama this weekend that was both encouraging and challenging!
I wanted to encourage you but you were always engaged so I will stop by here.
My husband and I planted a church in Olathe KS 26 years ago and it has been such an incredible ride! I would be lying if I told you it has been all smooth sailing! You wouldn't believe it anyway! But honestly, we have loved it! The honor of witnessing the transforming power of the Holy Spirit in the lives of people is intoxicating and definitely makes it worth it all! I just wanted to affirm and confirm in you His call and encourage you to MARCH ON dear Siesta Sister!
No regrets!
Love and prayers,
Belinda
And we will definitely visit next time!

Amanda - thank you again for the precious prayer for my daughter Melissa. The whole service at BCF was so anointed and the spirit of God was so present in the place! It was amazing! I felt the Lord's prompting to go down and have you pray for her as she has been so down lately. She is a lover of God but she feels so alone in Boston sometimes. The message from your mom and from Curtis was so powerful and I was telling Melissa that I wished she could have heard it first hand instead of from me.

Thank you again sweet Amanda - i will be praying for you and Curtis daily as you minister at BCF.

And thank Curtis for a great message and a wonderful welcome from your church family. God is so good!

I had a wonderful weekend in Houston. Such incredible teaching from your mom and your husband. I keep telling anyone who will listen to download the podcast of the sermon. I really did feel God's presence the whole weekend. I will be praying for your church as I'm sure you'll be doing some mighty work in your city.

Deeply touched by Sunday's sermon and by the Spirit of God Who has put the Iron Rod of Strength in your husband's soul. We were part of a church for 27 years that raised up leaders for church planting so I have great respect for all of your huge sacrifice! Gal 4:19--you are doing it! From the pastor's wife greeting us at the door to the humble musicians bringing God to us to the pastor's words falling like rain, even hail~Deut 2:2~on thirsty ones waiting for a drink, I could not have enjoyed worshipping God with you more---I was beside myself in awe, literally. Don't ever stop preaching Truth. It was weighty words about one prayer---not to call upon our Friend to restore our blessings but to restore our souls. And my prayer for your church and all of us is this...Jonah 2:8---when we are swallowed up by sin & struggles, may we not miss the Grace of God passing us by. And Isa 40:4---may He lower all the mountains you face and raise up the valleys you may be sinking in not for a better life here but that He may be glorified in BCF. Awestruck message! I enjoyed worshipping God with you all more than my words can say. Sorry I got carried away in a plethora of words. My Love & Prayers for your faith & love to abound! Bev

Amanda~ You are so adorable!! I love this picture of us and am so flattered to be in your blog. I got a text from Siesta Heather who said, "You are in Amanada's blog"...I immediately went and looked and laughed my head off at our precious 'missing' Wales siesta! I love that God was big into bible memory verses in England. It made my 2011 absolutely amazing and I can't wait to do it again in 2013. Maybe Charity can come for that one and we can all go have some tea! We are finally (after 4 weeks) done unpacking...3 shipments later we are all settled (at least for the time being and God moves us again). Military life is never dull and if anything, it causes me to rely more heavily on my sweet Heavenly Abba. Loved meeting you and hope to see you again! Cindy

It had been a while since I popped over to your blog, so with my hot tea and leftovers in hand, I sat down at the computer to eat my lunch & catch up. And let me just say that suddenly my leftovers are not so tasty because I NEEEEEEEED THAT MEXICAN FOOD!!!! It isn't helping that I'm pregnant, which means now I'm officially obsessed. It is by far the worst part about being away from Texas for 7 months!!!! There is no good Mexican food in Florida. :( Haha!!

Hey Siesta Amanda:

My mom and I were also blessed to visit BCCF after the Siesta SMT Celebration. Unfortunately, we arrived late and had to leave early, but we heard the meat of your hubby's Spirit-filled message. We had to laugh when he talked about his Grandpa making a hobby of end times and the book of Revelation. My mom is just like that! I, on the other hand, have always preferred the head in the sand approach. (-: Anyway, we both needed to hear about the importance of pushing forward in Spirit-filled prayer during these troubled times. Thank you also to the precious African American couple on your prayer team who prayed over me for healing for daily migraine headaches. Lots of love to you and your Siesta Mama!

I'm so sorry I had to miss it! And from what I heard, your mama bringing it is an UNDERSTATEMENT! So wish I could have been there or at least been able to get on the link! Oh, well. Hopefully, I'll be there in 2014, right! I sure hope we can afford it. With our upcoming move and all the new things we're going to have to pay for, Josh's raise isn't going to mean a thing!!! But by then, I'm hoping we'll have some bills paid off (trying to get out of debt, with our stupid, ugly spending habits we had!) and have money for some extras like that. We'll have been in Spokane almost 2 years, so there's time for plenty to change, and especially (I hope!) ME to change!!!
