Bang Preservation
When my sister and I were little girls we had amazing 80's and 90's bangs. We took turns in front of the mirror with mom each morning where she would make our bangs be all that they could be with a curling iron, Focus 21 hairspray, and "the blue brush." It was a very special brush that we all fought over. My bangs were always ruined by lunch time because I couldn't keep my hands off my forehead. However, my sister preserved her bangs, respraying and touching them up as the day went by. Occasionally she would have the perfect bang day. When it came time to part with her bang sculpture, she wasn't always ready to say goodbye. On those days she would wash her hair under the bathtub faucet with such precision that her bangs were untouched. They remained perfectly dry and in position while the rest of her hair was shampooed, conditioned, and given a new chance at glory. Folks, that is skill right there. In case you're forming a weird idea of my sister, I need you to know that she is the spitting image of cool and has been since the day of her birth. This is a prom queen I'm speaking of. If she had let her friends in on this little beauty tip, it would have made its way to Y.M. and then to Allure Magazine and we'd all have learned bang preservation years ago.

Oh Sweet Amanda, it's your mama that turned me on to Focus 21 and I've never been the same since they stopped selling it. I have been on the perfect hairspray mission ever since. You would know that by looking under my bathroom sink at all that are NOT!!!! Love you sweet girl.
OK, we used Aqua Net hairspray---somehow we didn't know about Focus 21, but I'm sure they are both right up there as high quality bang sprays. We had a clear shield that we held up under our bangs while we sprayed them, so the hairspray didn't coat our foreheads and clog our pores. Somehow, we all still had teenage pimples on our foreheads though.
And we had a "pink brush." And if you were the one that accidentally took it to a slumber party in your bag and forgot it........the Lord be with you.
Delurking to say...oh my goodness! I did that too. Bang perfection was just too difficult to come by and had to last as long as possible. However, I have been mocked for it by my family and now by my husband because my family decided he needed to know! oh, the days of the bangs...may they never darken my doorstep again.
I can't tell the age of those who comment on the "Bang Preservation" but I can tell you that I am over 60 and I well remember Aqua Net. It was like putting a steel helmet on your head. I also remember putting brush rollers in my hair EVERY night and then waking to a very sore and bumpy head. ALL THIS IN THE NAME OF BEAUTY!!!!!
hahaha my roomate does that now...except the opposite...she washes JUST her bangs cause she said they get greasy (sp?) faster :)
What a funny story! I was so jealous of the girls that had sky-high bangs. I never had those kind of hairstyling skills. The hairspray of choice among my friends was Aqua Net - maybe that's a midwest thing?
that story cracks me up...after being defeated by the "whispys" that would never just lay down i finally grew my bangs out.
