Siesta Fiesta and Potty Training

*UPDATE*
Yesssss! I am woman, see me aerobicize! Actually, I'm glad y'all didn't see me because I looked so pathetic trying not to overdo it after 2.5 months of my only aerobic activity being carrying my toddler upstairs. Missy was there too and she had my back in case I vomited, passed out, or had a bladder emergency. Although I don't think she knew about the possibility of B or C. Also, random info for you, the Little One is kicking around in there right now while I blog! I love it!

Two huge things in my life at the moment:

A) The Siesta Fiesta, which I wrote at length about here. It was really fun and way too short! Y'all, those conferences just take it out of you. I was feeling so sick yesterday that we almost left church. Nausea and blahness. I don't remember that happening when I was pregnant with Jackson until the very end. We served at Passion '06 (which was 5 days long) just six weeks before he was born. I had lots of Braxton Hicks contractions and swollen feet, but I didn't feel like I'd been hit by a train. Maybe it's because I'm now approaching 30. Dern. But I still have another year. Don't take that year from me!

B) Potty training. We are four days in. I can tell am going to be that mom who talks about her kid going potty. Oh Lord, I never wanted to be her. It's just that it takes so much of your focus and time (and you're so proud that they can do it after you've changed SO MANY DIAPERS), it's hard not to talk about. I promise I will try to keep it at a minimum in my conversations. It's kind of like breastfeeding. I never thought I would care to talk about that either but I could seriously go on and on and on.

Since this is a mommy blog, I'm afraid I have to share some potty training details. First, Jackson is so very proud of himself. As soon as he tinkles he jumps up, throws his hands in the air, and says, "Yeah!" He also likes to say, "I won!" I'm not sure where he's getting that. Maybe his parents are a little too competitive.

I knew we were getting close to starting because he'd been showing some signs, but I wanted to be past the nausea and all my traveling before we started. Well last week we had Jackson's meet the teacher night at his new school. His teacher told me he would have the opportunity to go on the potty at school. I thought we'd better let him try it at home before he had to try it there. Sure enough, he loved going tee-tee in the potty and he loves his new Cars pull-ups. He also loves getting a Skittle every time he goes. He has yet to go #2 in the potty, but mom told me to make him a grab bag of little prizes for motivation. I hope to do that tonight when I go to HEB. If he does it before then he gets the chocolate milk that came in his kids meal from Sonic.

This evening I might try to go to aerobics for the first time since I was about 5 weeks pregnant. (It's hard to go when you're pukish.) We'll see if I'm woman enough.

It was great to see you this weekend.
And good job on the potty training, wait and see how different it will be if you end up with a girl. Are you finding out?

Good luck with the potty training. With Ryan we bought up a bunch of Cars cars ... since he was SOOO in love with them and sat them on our bar so that he could see them yet not play with them. we told him he could have one when he went #2 in the potty. It was motivation enough and he has never looked back.

Sorry the yukkies came back--hope you're feeling much better today. Could it have been lack of sleep--the one thing that there wasn't lots of at the Fiesta?!

It was fun to meet you, hug you, and realize you're a tall girl too!

Much love and hang touch with the potty training. (I do think that M&Ms are much more inspiring than Skittles though. But then again, he's a boy. So maybe not!)

Ssshhh...I think I'll take a Siesta! ;)

It was a blast Amanda. Please tell your momma to prayerfully consider doing another one.

I know the potty training deal...personally, I couldn't stand it...drove me batty. And, the poop thing...oh my word...it seems like that took years. Nice encouragement huh??

Praying for you always. And I mean that.

Love,

I heard a good idea for potty training on another blog. See if you can get friends or family to call Jackson in character voices, like Mater from Cars. Or Mickey Mouse, Elmo, etc.
Once he goes #2 you make the call and the character congratulates him on going potty.

Immeasurably More Mama said...

Yeah, Jackson!!! You must be so proud, Amanda.
Also...if you make it to aerobics tonight after the weekend you had, then you are every woman! If I was you, I would probably be sacked out on the couch!!! (:

Kelli said...

Good for you going to aerobics!! I was too nervous I was going to let my true clumsiness show, but think that I might try it next time!

What a great idea for the grab bag of goodies. I am putting that one in the vault!

You're a great mother - Amanda!
Keep up the good work!!

(To make a game of it, you can try putting cheerios in the toilet and have him try to aim at them....just a thought.... might be worth trying...but, then again, he may want his teacher at school to do the same thing. Uh-oh! LOL)

BTW, the fiesta was wonderful. You were a great hostess. WE LOVED IT!

McClure Family said...

First, I want to say that I'm sorry if I've ever talked about my child and the potty too much. Help me. It does take so much of your focus! Second, I'm so glad that the fiesta went well. Congrats on all of your hard, diligent work! love you!

Oh honey, I had that hit-by-a-train feeling for nearly 2/3 of my pregnancy. The first trimester and the third. There were days I came home from work and just couldn't keep from crying, I was so tired. Poor Nathan was like, "Are you sure you're okay?" "Yes, I'm just SO TIRED." "But I don't understand why you're CRYING. Are you upset that you're tired?" Poor guy just couldn't understand.

All that to say that I feel ya, sister.

Y'all were so busy this weekend, girlie, so I'm not shocked that you felt yuck yesterday. Hopefully you were able to chill a little today.

Talk potty all that you want to. We can handle it!

Loved the question and answer time over the weekend, by the way.

Joni said...

Moms totally get the potty talk. Talk away! (My boys loved aiming at the Cheerios we placed in the toilet. It's good target practice for when they are older.)

I was so happy to briefly meet you this weekend, but TERRIBLY embarassed that my inner dork surfaced.

(If you get a chance, read http://www.jonisjoy.blogspot.com/ which details my humiliation.)

If not, know that in real life I mostly act normal.

Good luck with the potty training!

Michelle said...

It's okay to skip the class if you're too sick. I'm glad Jackson is doing so well on the potty! Hope you feel better soon!

Kim said...

When my son was potty training, two things worked well: We were hiking in the Smokey Mtns & my hubby told him he could potty on a tree... He LOVED that. And, we put Fruit Loops in the potty & he could "aim" at a particular color. It became fun & he quickly was through training. The #2 issue was much more tricky! I love the idea of a goody bag though!!! Great idea! Best wishes... this is even harder doing it while pregnant.

Sarah said...

Gosh, our Jackson's are so much alike! I think they would be great buds! My Jackson started potty training last week and has totally turned it into a competition! He will race me to the little potty and yells "I win"! Too funny! I did the prizes for number 2 as well. He's been a sneaky little booger though about it. For some reason he would just rather poop in his underware or in his pullup. But, PTL he did poop on the potty today at his Grandmama's house! Hopefully we're turning around. I am pregnant and due in January and a very wise lady told me to get him good and potty trained long before the new baby gets here or he might revert back to old ways. Good luck with everything!

The B's said...

Please share HOW you are getting him to go!!! My daughter will tell me everytime she goes or needs to go but if we sit her on the potty you can bet it isn't coming out!!! How do you do it? :)

Superchikk said...

Bribery worked for every one of my six younger siblings. Well, that and one of my brothers had to run around sans pants for a few days, but they were all quickly trained.

As an older sibling, I hated to hear the dreaded, "I'm done!" after #2 was accomplished. Ugh.

But, as my son is turning 1 year old next week, I have to say I'm looking forward to potty training with him when it comes time. I know it will be a challenge, but good grief, I'm ready to be done with these saggy diapers!

It was so nice to have been able to meet you this weekend! I can only imagine how exhausted you must be...I was and I'm not pregnant!

Great job on the potty training! (And by the way, please talk all you want about it- My twins are only 16 months old, so I'll gladly gleam any potty training advice that you want to share!) It looks like Jackson is "winning" though with #1, and the grab bag sounds like a great idea to spur him on for #2! (If you need to, you can use what we did for my nephew: My husband dressed up with a towel for a cape, carried a plunger, and wore goggles- He was the Super Pooper! It was hilarious to see him "flying" around the house in this attire, but it did the job! Little boys will do anything for super heroes!)

Hope you are continue to feel better day by day!

The Milams said...

I am living thru this with you! We had our first #2 on the toliet today and older brother and I threw a total party in the bathroom. Little one got a sticker for going. I made him call Daddy at work to tell him. He said, "my sticker in my hand". I could hear Daddy say, "Oh no, that's not good. Does it hurt?"

Obviously dad was thinking of another kind of sticker!

Good luck...T has been 100% at school the past 2 times since the teachers are constantly asking and the others are training too!

You know why you're more tired with this pregnancy than you were with the last one? I'll give you one word. Jackson. Being pregnant and chasing a toddler will WIPE YOU OUT. I've done it. Twice. Doesn't get easier.
I REALLY enjoyed meeting y'all this past weekend. The whole experience (LPL, Meet and Greet, Q&A, PJ Party) was awesome. It was a life changing weekend and I HOPE we do it again.
Good luck with potty training. Talk about it all you want. We moms will feel right at home if you do. It's part of our daily vocabulary.

Good luck! It's a big job, but eventually they get it and all the work is worth it. :)

You were wonderful this weekend; thank you for all you did, and REALLY, thank you for getting the whole Living Proof blog going. What a blessing its been- this weekend was proof!

Hope you feel better and get lots of rest. Have you heard that being pregnant is basically the same work and strain on your body as climbing a mountain? I used that A LOT. :)

Love and prayers!

Amanda,
I agree with Robyn, talk away, we moms are used to it. We have just finished potty training our youngest, we still have "acksidense", as he has come to call it. Whew. Potty training a toddler and pregnancy, no wonder you felt bad.

I so loved getting to meet you this weekend. You are a beautiful person inside and out and the Lord just radiates on your face (plus you have the pregant mama glow).

The three of you were so gracious and kind at the Q & A and did a great job. I loved seeing the three of you interact with such comfort and ease in front of all of us. You and your sister remind me of my two biological daughters, the oldest is Blond and my younger daughter has brown hair like Melissa. You all seem to have the same personalities, so it was fun to watch you interact.

I am thrilled I won such a fun door prize and to meet your precious mom. Melissa was right, she is a spiritual giant and has inspired me time and time again to get it together with God. She too radiates God's love in her life and it is contagious. . . that's what I can see in all 3 of you.

Yes, we really have 11 children, stay up on my blog or check out my profile for an explanation of how and why we really have that many. God has blessed us with a fabulous group of kids to be OURS( for now), we know they are really HIS. And just keep in mind, EAT MORE CHICKEN. . that may give you a hint on our whole story.

Peace out from this heiress, I have a lot to do,
wendy-mom of eleven

Amanda,
I hate i missed the conference. I really wanted to go but timing was just off. About potty training I hear you about not being a mom wanting to talk about it. Kaylee, my daughter, has done really well. We skipped the pull ups except we use them for bed and sometimes naps. We are still working on #2 though. She comes and tells me to put her on a diaper to do this!! I don't know what her issue with it and the potty is but at least she won't have an accident. ;o). Get some rest. Pregnancy really makes a body tired!

I promise to pray for you in this area of parenting. I know it's difficult, yet sounds cute, having made it through 2 kids. I wanted to tell you that I bought my husband some Beef Jerky from Buc-ee's (sorry if this gives you nausea again) on the way back to Houston. Wow, eh? And, I also had the opportunity to go to HFBC yesterday! What a special place and such a memorable day that I will never forget for as long as I live! Thanks for taking the time to spend your weekend with us and for letting us all take our pictures with you! :) One more thing... when you were sitting on the stage with your mom and your sister, I couldn't get out of my mind how much Jackson looks like you! Is that a new picture on your sidebar? He looks so grown up! Anyway, you take care!
Love to you,

So Amanda, I couldn't make it so SAT, but in a Houston girl, so i don't feel so bad. In potty training, I have a four year old and my sencond boy, and a teen girl, I noticed it was harder to potty train #2 for boys, but one thing that worked of course is to be consistent, don't stop now for anything, boys love to tinkle but have trouble making the connection to sit don't since they do that standind, (you don't have to post this) but try him seeing his daddy, I know it sounds weird but worked like magic for both my boys to make that 'male' connection.
Blessings while doing this, it's awesome once you're done.

Hey there girly....

Conversations about potty training don't bother me! I am an early intervention teacher for preschoolers who have autism, so we are VERY familiar with potty training! In the 6 years that I've been knee deep in the world of autism I've been a part of potty training probably about 30 little ones!
One cool thing that they really like is to have a "poopy party". Get a birthday hat or make your own big boy hat and some little cupcakes with punch. Have a party when Jackson goes poopy in the toilet with a candle, singing, and everything. You can even sing him our little poopy party song. It goes like this:
"It's a happy day for Jackson
It's a happy day for Jackson
It's a happppppy day for Jacksonnnnnn.....
He went poopy in the potty!" (sung to the tune of no other than Happy Birthday!) WHOOOO HOOOOO! (you got to do the whooo hoo part too!)

You'll be amazed with what those MDO teachers can accomplish. Al Queda would have no chance against MDO teachers.

And, the problem I have always found with pregnancy is that with each subsequent one you are *older* than you were with the last one. Sigh.

I never thought I'd talk so much about potty training and nursing either! They become so much a part of life as a Mom though, it's hard not too! I wasn't able to register for the Siesta Fiesta early so I missed meeting you at the sign in!! I had so much fun at the Siesta Fiesta though, y'all are too much fun! Your family is definitely NOT boring! I still have one more to potty train in the near future so I'm keeping in mind all the boy tips since my last two were girls.

Hi Amanda!

Loved meeting you this weekend! You are so precious! You radiate Him truly! Your Mom always talks about your sweet heart... so true! What an awesome weekend! I know you all are exhausted! For some reason my mind is still so full I can't sleep! It is so hard to come down from the mountaintop!

P.S. I was reading Joni's comment and I was laughing so hard! I want to apologize for my Dork moment!

When Wendy (Mom of eleven) and I got our picture taken with you I said, "Do you feel like Paris
Hilton?"... my friends all made so much fun of me... and were laughing like what in the world?!?... (I probably shouldn't admit it was me) then we all about died when your Mom started talking about her!
Please know I was trying to make a joke (which I am never very good at)... everyone was standing in line to get their picture with you and it made me think of celebrities for some reason and she was first name that popped in my head! (don't ask why?)

Anyway you are so adorable and I hope I didn't offend you. I don't think you are like Paris Hilton! Your life is definitely not a bore! Especially with potty training!

God Bless! Emmy : )

It was so nice to "almost" meet you this weekend Ha! I had a wonderful time at the Sieta Fiesta...I laughed SO much that I thought my head would explode :)) I almost stood up because my 30th bday was on Tuesday but I was afraid Melissa would bite my head off...she is SO about following the rules!!! HAHAHA!

Check out my blog if you want to read about the potty training HA! That was the centerpoint in my life and all I had to write about during those long, hard months!!! The only advice I can give is that when he's ready to poop he will. Jack went from going and getting a pullup and putting it on himself when he needed to go to going to the potty within days of each other. He just decided one day he would and never turned back!!!!
Good luck!!!!

I just had to laugh to myself when you mentioned this weekend that you were beginning pt'ing. Bring on the stories. I did a whole series on my blog entitled The Potty Training Chronicles... began in January... still going. Ugh. #2 & his stubbornness are KILLING ME.

Take it easy this week. Rest up.

And good luck on the potty training thing. Just don't ever get your hopes up that Jackson's aim will improve as he gets older. I have three boys and their bathroom should have red biohazard tape across the door.

There. Hope that encouraged you!

I'll never forget some years ago praying for a sweet girl's son to be potty trained so they could go to BSF. We prayed the whole year. I wouldn't dare to offer advice, but I did hear someone say to put m & m's near the potty and each success gets one m & m, each failure gets one flushed--sounds a little traumatic for a two-year old to me though, as it even upsets this 48 year old to see m & m's go to waste. Thanks for being such a trooper this weekend and so available. You are a doll. Love, Annette

WOOHOO Jackson on the potty training.

I have to ask, what kind of seat did you get for him? I tried sitting my little guy just right on the big potty... and well I didn't factor in the whole aiming issue and it went up and over onto my legs. He cried, I laughed. Potty training is on hold :)
