The Sister at Six Weeks

Daddies are so tacky when they put undies on their little girls' heads!

Miss Annabeth, at six weeks old...

You weigh somewhere between nine and ten pounds. You've definitely outgrown your newborn clothes.

You go to bed around midnight, wake up around 4 to eat, and then you're up around 7 to eat again. You sleep most of the morning after that. We're starting to work on an earlier bedtime - 11 last night and 10 tonight.

You sleep while Jackson and I eat lunch and then you're up and ready to play when he goes down for his nap. We're making strides toward getting you both to sleep at the same time.

You like to be in your swing. You somewhat like your bouncy seat. You don't like your playmat, but I have hope that you might change your mind soon.

You tolerate your baths, but if the water isn't hot you get very mad. I don't blame you!

You have big, blue, wide eyes just like your brother. You look so much like him when I compare you to his baby pictures at each week.

Jackson loves you in his three-year-old way. He shows it by laying his "soft blanket" over you whenever I'm feeding you. He also tries to share his race cars with you. Recently you were in your swing and he offered one to you with his arm outstretched. Of course, you didn't reach out and grab it, so he laid it on the tray in front of you. It was so sweet. He loves to give you kisses on your head. He hasn't held you very much, but he always grins and laughs when he does.

You are such a good baby. I once heard that babies peak in fussiness at 6 weeks, so I've been bracing myself for your fussy stage. You still haven't had it. Every time we've had a truly fussy day, it's been because I ate something that didn't agree with you. Now that you are 6 weeks old, I think it's safe to say that your personality as a baby is very pleasant and laid back. Your daddy and I are so thankful.

You're smiling more every day. This started last week when I ran my finger over your top lip. You smiled a great, big, gummy smile. It was so cute and it made Mommy very happy. I got a glimpse of what you were going to look like so soon! I thought I was going to have to wait for it, but every day since then you've smiled more. I love seeing these happy expressions on your face. You are the most adorable baby girl I've ever seen. And you're mine!

Daddy and I are eaten up with love for you. You have added so much joy to our home. Every day I have to pinch myself that I actually have a daughter - and that I have one as sweet as you!

Today Mommy and her friend Missy went to have lunch at a tea room. When we walked in, a little girl and her mommy were just leaving. The little girl had her American Girl doll in her arm and they had on matching dresses. I can't wait to take you to a tea room, to shop for your first American Girl doll (we'll have to take Bibby with us), and to see you become a little lady. We have fun days ahead my dear!

But there's no rush. You are perfectly delightful at 6 weeks old.

Precious. Absolutely precious.

So nice of God to match y'all up together like He did. You couldn't have gotten a better daughter and she couldn't have gotten a better mommy.

oh that's precious!
the Mister and the Sister... so cute!!

I looove the picture with the green hat on her head and the expression on her face! or is that a pair of Jackson's underwear?! hard to tell! :)

you will so love those days ahead when they get here. I even bought my own AG doll that looks like me, so she and her doll would have someone to play with. We have so much fun! So glad you're savoring every moment.

Such a precious little doll baby! She's lost that "I'm brand new" look that newborns have and she's starting to look like her family! In second pic you posted I really saw your Mom. And in the rest I saw a lot of Jackson.

I found some pix on my computer this afternoon of my second daughter at three weeks old and it just brought back the most precious memories! Such fun times you have in store with your little girl!

This is so sweet amanda. You are right--there is no hurry for annabeth to grow up. Overnight it seems they grow up and no longer want to wear the clothes we pick out for them, decide they are too big for American girl dolls, and want to hang out with their friends instead of mom. Enjoy each moment and may be when she's 17 she'll ask your opinion about boys and clothes and let you take her out to Panera--especially if you're buying lunch. smile.

You're right. She is adorable.

My girls are 7, 3, & 2, so I am just really getting into the fun mother/daughter stuff. It's awesome & u will love it. We experienced American Girl for the 1st time this past summer. Bibby will definitely eat it up.

Oh, and getting them to nap @ the same time is CLUTCH. You will give God a handclap the day that happens. And don't expect to get anything accomplished during that nap. It's a mental health break. So take it!

Oh my goodness...she said with a sigh...She is absolutely PRECIOUS!! I'm asking God to give you and Annabeth some very special tea party memories. They are some of my favorites.

I should probably mail this in a letter or something, but I just need to tell SOMEBODY this!
I am facilitating the Esther study. We LOVE it!
I'm sure someone else has pointed this out, but just in case... I know that Mama Beth is always glad to be humble and laugh at herself, so... I was previewing session 8 at home -very focused and taking notes. I'm not sure exactly when during the video it happened, but I looked up from my workbook in time to see her lean forward to teach something with some power and when she did, there was a statue resembling a peace sign behind her.

It gave her rabbit ears. No kidding. Not just a split second either...long enough for me to notice, start to grin...she stands up, then leans in again, and well, I lost it!!! I had to pause it 'cause I started laughing so hard.

:-) My son was (is) a wild man. His sister was (is) laid back. Nice of God to give us a break, isn't it!!! She will keep amazing you . . . . . I remember being floored that my daughter would actually sit still and wait for me to put her shoes on. After I only had to tell her ONCE to wait for me. It was so shocking that I made her dad watch her just sit there. We were in stunned silence (for a good reason for once)!!

Joyce said...

Such a little sweetie. I think she looks so much like your son from pics you've posted.

My girls loved the Americn Girl dolls and my mother bought them the dolls and then later the clothes and furniture for every birthday and Christmas for many years. It was a very special thing she shared with them. My 20 year old confessed the other day that she still loves looking at the catalog whenever she runs across it. We have all of theirs put away hopefully to be passed on to some granddaughters one of these days.

Enjoy..time flies.

I love this post, Amanda! I need/want to work on one for Brennan for his 2 months sometime this week. I've been making a list of everything to write about, I just need to do it.

Annabeth is adorable!! She looks like a sweetie pie, too. And while tacky, the picture of her wearing the undies is really cute. Loving her smiles!

Marc and Charity said...

Oh she is so cute!!! I love the undies on her head!

Sounds like our girls are on the same sleep schedule- bed around midnight and up at 4. This too shall pass. :)

Have a great day!

What a wonderful message Miss Annabeth will treasure in the years ahead. To know you are fully loved is the best gift of all! I am so very close with my Mom and I too have a young daughter. What a blessed heritage to pass along.

I just love reading reflective thoughts from a momma's heart.

Annabeth looks a lot like Jackson (especially in that second picture) but I also see more of you in her face. (: She is a doll!

Reading your posts brings back such special memories of when mine were so little. They aren't grown up yet, but (as I'm sure you're told eleventy million times a day), the stages go by too fast. You remind me to soak it all up like a great big sponge.

Don't you feel blessed to have a boy AND a girl? I knew I loved being a Boy Mom and would have been happy being just that, but having a little girl? Icing on an already delicious cake.

Thanks for your post; I enjoy your blog.

How cute is she!! I see her resembling her big brother! Do you think they look alot alike or different? She is just precious and isn't fun to have one of each? I love having my boy and doing boy things but I am so excited to have my sweets and we are going to paint nails and have tea parties too :) Blessings Amanda!

How is it possible Annabeth is getting cuter and cuter every week?! Lord, help us!

She really does look like Jackson and those smiles show it best. Delighted to hear about he is so sweet to her. Makes your heart just melt!

I'm looking forward to girly things with my daughter too. Right now, she's so into her brothers (she's 14 mos!) that sitting and reading with mom is more of a chore/punishment. I hope that changes!! =/

Dearest Amanda,

I love it.... the sister and the mister! Is that Annabeth's tea set- it is too precious? I have been looking at tea sets all week for Caroline's birthday, and haven't been able to find a cute one I like anywhere! I know you and your sweet girl have so much fun ahead.

Rachel said...

What precious moments in time, both present and the ones to come! My baby girl is about to tun 2 already in just a couple more weeks. It's so fun and makes me want to just sob at the same time. Then, just 6 days later, her big brother will turn 5! Sometimes it's too much for me to think about cause I feel like I'm gonna blink and they'll be off to college or getting married. OK, OK, so that might be a slight exaggeration. :)

What great pictures of your beautiful baby! So glad she has continued to be a laid-back baby--was praying for this for you as I know the fear that comes with bringing #2 home when #1 wasn't exactly laid-back! My girl was and is this way still at 15 mo. old and I thank the Lord every day :)

Oh amanda...those pictures are so beautiful...especially the underwear one! Ha! At least Jackson isn't reading "Captain Underpants" yet because there could be a serious connection there.

Have a wonderful rest of the week! How's spring break going?

Amanda, this makes me really excited about having a little girl, too. I just know that mother/daughter relationship is one of a kind. I overheard my husband telling a friend of his on the phone the other day how excited and "fitting" it was that he have a little girl. It warmed my heart :)

Traci said...

How darling is she? I know you are a tea lover, so I thought you might like this idea- my mom has given my daughter a miniature tea set every year for Christmas and her birthday - they are all precious. Anyway, she has a display shelf that runs across a wall in her room where many of them are displayed as well as on her book shelves and atop her vanity. She is old enough now that she really appreciates them (she's 8). Just a thought!

She is so sweet. I think she looks like Curtis.

Oh my! Annabeth is such a cutie patootie! Enjoy every moment of her life. As the mom of a 17 year old who is one of my BEST friends, I've got to admit I do miss those early days with bows on her head.

And you're right I can see Jackson's smile (your smile) on her face. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, she looks like a combination of you and Curtis. . . no offense to your mom or Curtis' for that matter, there is absolutely no doubt that Annabeth is YOUR daughter through and through--she looks like her mom and dad!!

Much love,
~Cheryl (Prof)

Amanda, She is a doll. I know that a boy is such a delight (of course, I want one of my own) but little girls are just such a connection. G is getting bigger and we are starting to do all the fun things you talk about....like we did with our moms when we were little.

Thank you for sharing! Allison

This - "very pleasant and laid back"--is why we had two more after our Kylie. If Noah hadn't of been first, he would have been a "deal-breaker" for any more. He was a difficult baby-toddler.

And that smile is OH SO BEAUTIFUL!

Praying for you today,

Been going through the attics for spring break (not by choice) and have run across many baby pictures and so there's something inside of me when I see these BEAUTIFUL pics of your baby---it went by way too fast. Live in the present moment and deal with this moment. Not the past. Not the future. Post as many pics as you want and we'll look at them all! She's beautiful and I'm wondering all our good God will do with her!
