Quiz

Today is:
A) The second Friday the 13th this year.
B) The day I officially gave up on the bedspread we bought last spring.
C) My three year blogaversary.
D) All of the above.

Did you answer D? That is correct!

A) It's Friday the 13th...again! I was really hoping I wouldn't give birth to Annabeth on Friday, February 13th. Praise the Lord - for so many reasons - that I didn't even get close! Not that I think it would have truly been ominous, but I wouldn't have wanted to tell her she was born on that day. Just like I wouldn't have wanted to tell her that I went into labor at Monster Jam. Can you imagine?

B) We've had this bedding since last spring.

It's neat and all, but it's a duvet and the comforter is always bunched up on one side. Usually one of us is sweating at night and the other one is cold. Is there some kind of trick to this that I don't know about? Also, the color, which is somewhere between blue and gray, is not really us. In almost a year, I've not hung one thing on the walls, bought one decorative accessory, or made any progress on finding new curtains. So we have this rain colored bedspread with red drapes. Red drapes that do not match. Red, unmatching drapes that are so long that it will cost more to replace them than to replace the bedspread. So this morning I made the bold announcement to Curtis that I would be spending my Christmas gift cards to Pottery Barn on new bedding. He was pumped. I was shocked. Now I have something else to amuse me online besides reading blogs and trying to type emails with one finger while I nurse the baby.

C) Happy blogaversary to me! I started this blog on March 13, 2006, with the announcement of Jackson's grand entrance. I've loved having this outlet to record everything from my children's births and milestones to where I've just eaten or shopped. I enjoy writing for writing's sake (although most of my posts don't deserve to be called writing) but it definitely would not be as fun without you! Thanks for reading and thanks for all the encouraging, supportive, and fun comments.

To celebrate my blog's third birthday and the readers who have blessed me so much along the way, I'm doing my first real giveaway! I'm giving away one $50 gift certificate to Tiny Prints, which is my favorite web site for ordering stationery. They have baby announcements, Christmas cards, and all kinds of fun invitations. It makes me all kinds of happy to have a reason to order something from Tiny Prints, so I'm excited to do this little giveaway.

To enter, just leave a comment on this post and make sure I have a way to get in touch with you. There's no need to post anything on your blog about it. I'm not looking for new readers as much as I want to tell you how much I appreciate you. I will do the drawing on *Sunday evening and announce the winner then. I wish I could give away more than one gift certificate, but when I told the Hubs that I was doing this giveaway, he suggested I just give away some advice. So here's your advice: don't ask your hubby what he thinks about giving something away to The Invisible Internet Peeps.

*Originally I put Monday, but that's because I thought today was Saturday. Ironic, isn't it, since I just talked about it being Friday the 13th? I need more sleep!

So funny on the last line. Girl I so had a duvet and it was crazy just like that. I had to shake that thing out every day to get the humps out of it. I have moved on! I found a comforter that is so pretty that came with everything for 36 dollars. It was $295. I love when JC Penney marks their stuff down.

Curtis makes me laugh with that last comment!
I'm glad I'm not the only one reading blogs and typing one handed e-mails (that makes me so frustrated that I end up giving up mostly) in the middle of the night while I nurse. :-)

Thanks for the giveaway! We had the same problem with our duvet - shifting around inside the duvet cover. If you turn the whole thing inside out (yuck, I know!) and safety pin each corner of your duvet to the duvet cover, it'll stay put. Although since you're getting new PB bedding (yeah!), you won't have to worry about the shifty duvet anymore. :)

giveaways are so fun! And you are sweet to do one with your life full as it is now. Happy shopping for new bedding. I've been looking at my PB bedding that I bought as a newly wed almost 8 years ago and desparately desire to switch it up. I hoping maybe this fall...in our new house...? We'll see!

So happy for (D) to be the answer to the question! Have a restful weekend! (oh, and I too love to be able to record things through blogging...you're a much better writer than you give yourself credit for! runs in the family?)

Hey Amanda,
I sure do enjoy the blog...such encouragement for us on the road of motherhood as well as womanhood. I am hoping to win the gift card so I can use it to win some wonderful thank you cards. A wonderful neighbor went out of her way to help me today, I had locked my daughter in the car! She stayed with me the entire time, even when the cops came and unlocked the car. My daughter was fine, she thought it was funny, and the lady (really an angel) was so sweet. She never judged me, just helped and laughed with me after it was over. So, I would love to write her a sweet hand written note, and tiny prints has such sweet stuff! My email address is katct@hotmail.com...thanks and have a wonderful weekend!

Amanda you're a bloggin' blessing!

And as for that slipping, sliding duvet cover, I just use those giant safety pins and pin it in place. But you may want to take the advice of the person who suggested the ties. If one of those safety pins comes undone in the middle of the night you'll think a giant spider is attacking your foot. Just saying.

lavonda said...

Happy Blogaversary! :)

I too had my duvet cover days.
ugh.
I even safety pinned them in place from the inside I got so tired of the humpty humps everywhere. and he'd be warm and I'd be cold with the thing shifting all around inside every night. Safety pins from the inside helped for sure.

After that duvet I got the most GORGEOUS quilt and shams from PB. It is STILL on my bed all these years later, and people STILL comment when they come over about how gorgeous it is. teehee... I love it!

Rock on Amanda with your bloggy self. :)

Kacy Goff said...

Hey Girl!

I know you have the Pottery Barn gift cards and all...but you really just need my window treatment/bedding workroom to make you the coverlet you want! We'll ship it to you :). Seriously though, those duvets are tricky. We like to sew these little straps with snaps or ties into every corner and along the sides, and that works pretty good.

Thanks for writing your blog...you make me laugh!

Here's how to fix the bed problem. You need to sew a piece of fabric to all four ends of the duvet cover andall four ends of the bedspread. Then you tie the pieces together once you insert the duvet. Then the duvet will not shift while inside the bedspread. Make sense?

Happy bloggerversary! Three years seems like a triumph to me, who only begun blogging about three months ago...

That bedding looks like some I wanted from Anthropologie this past summer, but never got around to ordering. My husband and I are having issues with our current duvet, but I'm thinking about stitching it into place (kind of like they used to tie old quilts together with yarn) except I want to use a thread that matches the bedding and the little bows must be on the underside.

Funny. Its been a joy and inspiration to read your blog, I love it! My daughter has been begging me to start a blog together, a duo type thing, so last night I finally started setting it up! She is so excited. When I was her age, I guess it was chinese jump rope and jacks that made me happy!! Have a great weekend Amanda! Keep it going, love you!

Happy blog-a-versary and happy baby #2, I'm following along side your tales of having a little one except I am 2 months ahead of you! I bought me the lillpads when you talked about them!

I am a much older peep who rarely comments, but I so enjoy reading your writing. You remind me of how special those "young dazes" were...(mine are now 15, 11 & 7)...Hold 'em close, you'll blink and you'll be sitting in the driving license place getting a learner's permit and fighting off a major mommie moment!!:)
blesssings!

I've followed the LPM blog from the beginning, but I discovered your blog through Vicky Courtney's blog. You left a comment on hers and I checked out your profile. I have gone back and read many of your old posts about Jackson. You have a great blog going. Congrats!! My blog is a work in progress. Therefore, I don't really want to put my blog address out there yet!

I don't want to post my email here. So I thought I would send you an email to the blog email at LPM and connet ThirtysomethingMom to an email address. I hope that is okay.

Have a great day!!!

Sign me up. It's funny how I found your blog. Someone linked to you as Baby Bangs and thought it was a cute blog name so I clicked over. It took me a while to realize the connection.

We use a dual control heated mattress pad to set the warmth where each one wants it during the winter. And during the summer we take the duvet out of the cover and just use it as a coverlet. It's almost time to do that!

I always enjoy your blog, Amanda, and am so glad I found it!

Thanks so much for sharing your life. Knowing someone else is going through the same things, words of encouragement, and sharing of God's goodness is so important among friends (even blogging friends)! Take care and thanks again.

i love tiny prints..they are awesome!

have fun picking bedding..they have some great stuff right now..should be easy to find something to go with the red drapes..i got a duvet for christmas too and ordered a neat cover from Layla Grace BUT i had to return it, the down comforter was too much for us and it always looked messy.i will stick to regular quilts, comforters or matelesse coverlets i think..the duvet i have on my son's twin bed is more manage-able but not a king!!!

Enter me and I "get it." I lived for a year with this hidious (sp?) gold paint in my living room that I thought I would love. Didn't hang anything until finally the hubs decided to repaint last month. It looks beautiful. Ready to finish it up!

Hi there,

I love your blog and happy 3rd anniversary. We have tried the duvet route and it never worked for my husband and me, either.

I remember typing with one finger while I breastfed! Not an easy task, but a blessing all the same, isn't it?

I do not want to be considered for the gift certificate but I just had to comment on what a total blessing you have been to me over the past 3 years. You are an extremely gifted young woman and a simply delightful communicator and a great mom. So there, take the sweet words of those who impose themselves into your life (with your permission, I might add) and go about being what you were meant to be: A godly wife and mother!!!

Hey Amanda! It's Jennifer from Florida! You probably don't remember me, but I got to speak to you in San Antonio this summer and had just found out I was pregnant and my due date was around yours. I ended up having a c-section on Feb. 23rd and delivered a sweet baby girl. We named her JennaBeth!!! My husband met a sweet teenage girl at youth camp last summer when he took our youth. Her name was JennaBeth. My husband was so impressed with her sweet spirit and love for the Lord at such a young age and he loved her name. So, when we found out we were having a baby, we stuck with JennaBeth.
Happy Blogaversary!!!!!

I am delurking for a give-away!! I love your blog and your transparency.

I hate that comforter though(No offense-I'm kind of transparent too!) and am so glad you are replacing it. Can't wait to see the new diggs.

PS. Esther is kicking my butt. And I thought it would be a "feel-good" Bible study. God used Beth to push me to a place I've been needing to go for a long time.

Sorry to write a book.

Having bedding we don't love certainly kills any decorating motivation, I believe. At least for me. We've gone through many quilts, comforters and duvets because I stink at picking out bedding. Al though, If a Potterybarn gift card made it's way to me I feel sure I would make an honest attempt to pick out something grand.

Happy blog anniversary! I love visiting here! Here's to three more years :)
